PeeD, Off-topic but what happend to Turkeys force deployment to Qatar? They have 8 days left for the Saudi ultimatum, has Turkey enough geopolitical power to do the deployment in the remaining 8 days or is the whole thing cancelled?

I think this case is a good indicator fur Turkeys current geopolitical strength in the region.

The first contingent of Turkish soldiers arrived in Qatar back in 2016 before any crisis.

Turkey however began further troop deployment to Qatar last week through Iran airspace using Qatari and Turkish Heavy Transport Aircraft. TCG Iskendurun and other Turkish Naval Assets are also already in the Persian Gulf.

Turkey has secured and marked out a large chunk of Qatari territory in Doha for its base and the first batch of APC’s arrived this week for “showing the flag”.

Turkey’s first priority is to build the necessary civil structures and communications assets.

FalconDude, The only way you will have war for 20 years in the Middle East is to either listen to Turkey or let Turkey sort it out. We have ruled this part of the world for in excess of 700 years and know it better than any outsider up to every single local tribesmen.

Here I FTFY. I am in awe by your level of esoteric education …

The moment you trump up nationalism and sectarianism in the Middle East- you ensure perpetual war. Hence, why Washington’s insistence on an ethnic Kurdish State is going to bring perpetual war. Washington should stop seeking to reengineer the Middle East and look after its own backyard.

JSR, It does not change fundamentally F-16 performance or AIM120. as Turkey is not rebuilding AIM120 with new propulsion and seeker or advanced material body for enhanced speed and range.
Egypt went with new MIG29 platform that physically outperform everything they have and every thing in the region. Egypt also went with Russia firms approach oil and gas development . Now no one is threatening them and they are much better position to squeeze money out of Saudi and Emiratis and ultimately deal with Israel . On other hand Turkey has to rely on Iran to rescue Qatar. Turkey ineffective airpower can’t stop Kurdish refrendum unless Iraq help it. On other hand Saudi airforce sent Yemen to stone age . you can see practically you are nothing .

Of course not. Hence why Turkey is developing a twin-engined air-superiority fighter and acquiring S-400’s.

With regards to Qatar- open up a map. Turkey has no intentions of engaging in a war with every country that surrounds Qatar when it still has an alternative air corridor through Iran. This is what Washington wants so that Turkey is weakened- make no mistake- Washington wants to get rid of President Erdogan at all costs. Its the same game that was played by the US against Iran and Iraq (Saddam). Let others fight your battles. No matter how much pressure it faces, Turkey will not engage in any large scale war- it will however continue on its path of expanding & strengthening its economy, arming itself up to the teeth and open up new export markets. It will only commit to small scale operations on its borders in consultation with China and Russia to neutralise imminent threats such as the PKK & YPG.

The GCC recently spilt the beans on why Qatar has been punished. They said Qatar needs to close down the Turkish base there: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/qatar-crisis-turkey-saudi-arabia-uae-egypt-economic-sanctions-blockade-air-base-a7805346.html

This is not Saudi Arabia or the Egyptian dictator speaking. Rather it Washington pushing the buttons- as Trump himself said. The US does not like Turkey’s resurgence/ expansionism into the Middle East. The empire that was crippled during WWI to a nullity is now once again building bases across the Middle East and next to important US bases in the region. It is also now back in Africa (Somalia & Djibouti) conducting exploration work for oil and gas and mining. Baby steps but steps which can transfer Turkey to one of the Top 5 economies within 40 years.

JSR do you think Turkey does not know what you have just stated?

It is for this reason that Turkey has been retrofitting all US supplied weapons systems with Turkish Mission computers, software, datalinks etc since 2011.

You and many on this site might be surprised to learn that Turkey is probably the only country in the world that since 2011 onwards uses its own source codes in its entire TuAF F-16 fleet. See http://www.trdefence.com/turkey-to-rewrite-software-source-codes-of-204-f-16-fighters/

Even the critical software in the pocket AWACS that controls command and control/detection etc you mention is written by Turkish engineers: See http://www.havelsan.com.tr/ENG/mobile/icerik/985/airborne-early-warning-systems-%E2%80%93-peace-eagle-pe

Turkey’s HAVELSAN plays a critical role in software development and network centricity in Turkey. Nearly every platform Turkey has commissioned since 2011 uses Turkish mission computers and source codes. The T-129 Attack Helicopter and all its Turkish weapons systems, the TAI T70 (License produced Sikorsky S70 Blackhawks), SOM Stand-off cruise missiles and other indigenous weapons systems etc all use Turkish mission computers and software.

The entire Turkish Navy uses indigenous combat management systems (GENESIS) and software. Even the Oliver Hazard Perry Class guided-missile frigates have all been retrofitted with Turkish Combat Management systems. See http://www.havelsan.com.tr/eng/Main/urun/991/genesis-combat-management-systems

Any off-the-shelf purchase by the Turkish Armed Forces stipulates that Turkey will supply the mission computer, software etc.

On top of all this Turkey has begun using indigenous Operating Systems on all Turkish Government and Military computers, PLC, electronic devices etc. Turkey now uses the indigenous Pardus Operating System (a Debian-based distribution). See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pardus_(operating_system)

By using its own operating system the Turkish Armed Forces makes it harder for Stuxnet type virus attacks.

The flip side is whatever the USA does is bad and Russia/Syria good. Or the situation there is so screwed that’s there is no clear cut answer except eliminating ISIS and letting the chips fall as they may.

Personally , the Kurds have been screwed so long and have fought hard to earn some degree of self determination. Perhaps they should not be open to air attack from Syrian forces.. if you buy the line that the Su-22 was attacking ISIS lines buy a map. Then again, in the words of Colin Powell I do wish the US would back out and hand the mess to Russia. “If you break it, you bought it”, Iraq is enough.

The only way you will have peace in the Middle East is to either listen to Turkey or let Turkey sort it out. We have ruled this part of the world for in excess of 700 years and know it better than any outsider up to every single local tribesmen.

Telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan
    http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/54860

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Turkish Republic Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The President of Russia was on board a pipe-laying ship that is involved in the construction of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline.

    June 23, 2017 14:10

During the conversation Vladimir Putin noted that Russia and Turkey maintain a higher level of cooperation than other countries, recalling that the agreement on building the Turkish Stream was signed in 2016 and the work on laying the deep-water section of the pipeline is already underway. Mr Putin said the first leg of the pipeline will be ready next year and the second one in late 2019.

    * * *

Excerpts from telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr President!

I am calling you from a pipe-laying vessel in the Black Sea. This is a huge ship that has been working for several days now. I am here to take part in launching the work on the deep-water section of the Turkish Stream pipeline.

Mr President, I would like to congratulate you on this launch and say that Russia has been more effective in implementing joint projects with Turkey than with many of our other partners.

It would be no exaggeration for me to say that where we spend years with our other partners on securing various administrative approvals, with Turkey we have been able to do it within just a few months. There is no doubt that this is attributable to your direct and personal support.

Russia and Turkey signed an intergovernmental agreement on the Turkish Stream in autumn 2016. Seven months later, the work is already underway.

I would like to thank you once again and congratulate you on this achievement.

    <…>

There are still several questions we need to coordinate: the entry point, the route on Turkish territory and environmental security. If we are able to keep up this momentum, as we have until now, we will fulfil all our plans.

The first leg will be ready in 2018, and by the end of 2019 the second leg will be completed. We will be ready to supply gas to southern and southeastern Europe through Turkish territory, should our partners so desire. We can see that our partners are interested in this option.

I understand that you wanted to be here with us today. I can assure you that we will make certain that your interests are properly represented and taken into account, since in this case our interests fully coincide.

You have mentioned another major project, the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. Only recently the Turkish regulator issued a licence to the Russian operator for selling electricity until 2066, and I would like to thank you for that. If we continue moving forward at the same pace on other issues, we will surely fulfil our plans, including those to launch the nuclear power plant on time.

I would like to wish you and the people of Turkey all the very best.

    Until next time.

    Construction on Turkish Stream commences.
Russia commences Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant which involves ToT for a Nuclear enrichment plant to Turkey

Turkish and Russian troops to jointly patrol and control de-escalation zones in Syria.

Turkey and Russia also to deploy troops in Idlib to prevention YPG expansion.

Is this the first time a NATO member State is working with Russia on a battle field against US interests?

I don’t know about that Bayar. They seemed to have quite a bit of trouble fighting Kurds. And anyway, claims like this have been done before to be completely wrong. Best not to jump to things IMO.

The PKK is not an existential threat as yet thus Turkey is abiding by the Geneva Convention and Laws of Armed Conflict. In the event that Turkey takes part in a real full-blown war it would field at least 1.5 million Soldiers and have the entire wrath of Turkish mobilization at its disposal. Mobilizing such a force has negative economic impact on a country and is always a last resort measure. Turkey to date has been using the Gendarmerie and Police Special opps units as opposed to proper Army and Special Forces Units. It also has not been using the full Military inventory at its disposal in Syria’s Euphrates Shield Operation. It has merely armed and equipped the FSA and sent a few military Advisors.

Turkey has not deployed T-129 Attack helicopters, used Stand-off cruise missiles, deployed MLRS systems, or other high tech weaponry in Syria or Iraq. Its aircraft also have not engaged in any SEAD or DEAD missions in Syria. In a full blown war this would be the first thing the Turkish Armed Forces would do- destroy the countries air defense weapons systems and military infrastructure using, F-16’s, MLRS, Artillery shelling, Harpy Attack Drones (and their indigenous equivalents), SOM Stand-off cruise missiles, anti-radiation and EMP munitions etc. E.g. the Turks could have taken out Tabqa Dam in Syria basically crippling DAESH in Rakka.

Putin usually give first year to new US president before he make moves. Turkey with western weopon systems and training can’t succeed with out Russia but Russia can learn from Turkey about some systems.

A properly mobilized Turkish Army without Russia or US stopping them can go through one side of both Iraq and Syria and come out the other within 48 hours in proper war like situation.

And it seems like it is on: Turkey’s deployment of troops to Northern Syria has been confirmed. Mr. Putin is punishing Mr. Trump for the downing of the Syrian fighter.

“Turkish forces are now inside Syria… the forces are huge reinforcements that have been entering since last night,” said a member of one the militant groups backed by Turkey.

Turkey sending heavy arms to Azaz near Tal Rifaat.

Modernized MBT’s, Surface to Air Missile units, APC’s, Towed Howitzers, MLRS have been seen being transferred.

Looks like Russia has given Turkey the all clear as retaliation for Washington downing a SAA fighter engaging the YPG.

The fact that you create a dichotomy between Shia and Sunni Turkomen shows that you are a sectarian nutter. The Turks could not give 2 f*cks about sectarianism. I think you are confusing the Turks with the Saudi’s or are one of those “Arab al-Ahwār”‘s who hope for a sectarian war so that they can sit back and reap the benefits. Turkey has closer relations with Iran than Saudi Arabia! They helped the Iranians bypass US sanctions and also helped broker a nuclear fuel rod swap deal using Brazil as an intermediary!

The US come in and all of a sudden Iraqi’s are talking about different sects and religions. They forgot about unity, nationhood and prosperity but all of a sudden began dreaming of small Statelets. Divide and Conquer in its full glory.

Andraxxus, Turkey has a very similar agreement with Iraq.

    http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/07/10/iraq.turkey/

P.S. I am not a Erdogan worshipper but rather an individual well informed of what is going on. Despite popular belief Turkish Foreign Policy of late is not dictated by President Erdogan but rather a segment of the the Turkish Military brass. President Erdogan is merely the face of such policies. Since the creation of modern day Turkey there has been a segment of the Turkish military brass who have advocated for Turkish Foreign Policy to be equidistant to Russia and the US. Turkey’s rapprochement with Russia is the product of these General’s becoming mainstream. President Erdogan enabled this through military appointments.

It’s better for Turkey to be outside as it’s budget and military procurement is not constrained. EU money will make Russia formidable military power in Middleast and that in turn will make it deploy even more powerful weopons in Europe
    http://russianconstruction.com/news-…s-gazprom.html

Not with oil/gas at current prices.

The EU is seeking to amend the Turkey-EU Customs Union to include Natural Gas and Oil. But Turkey is making this contingent on EU membership which will never happen. See https://en.trend.az/world/turkey/2766180.html

Europe knows that Turkey will impose tariffs on oil and gas transits.

Sheytanelkebir, the last I checked the terrorists were being harbored in Iraq and crossing the border to attack Turkey and then retreating back into the safety of ‘sovereign’ Iraq. Turkey has repeatedly warned that if Iraq and Syria cannot prevent these cross-border terrorist attacks it will.

If you think the West will stop Turkey in taking such measures you are grossly mistaken. All Turkey has to do is give a few more concessions to Russia and China and get them to look the other way and also to keep Washington/Europe at bay.

Furthermore, do not forget the Iraqi Turkomen. Turkey can use them as a pretext at any point in time to take necessary measures in Iraq. If the Kurds get a State- Turkey will carve out another chunk for the Turkomen in Iraqi cities that matter- Mosul. You would note that the Treaty of Laussane is silent on Mosul and Turkey has not signed any Treaty with Iraq on the status of Mosul.

In brief: the Middle East is now in one big mess post-Bush administration.
