The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has partnered with Korea Aerospace Industries Co. (KAI), a local defense firm, and Indonesia for the project worth 8.8 trillion won (US$7.8 billion).

KF-X program budget: US $7.8 billion

South Korea will receive some technical support from an Israeli firm for the development of the AESA, a more advanced and sophisticated system which can radiate multiple beams of radio waves at multiple frequencies simultaneously.

    Israeli ToT for AESA Radar

The timetable is based on some progress in the KF-X program aimed at manufacturing around 120 advanced fighter jets to replace the Air Force’s aging F-4 and F-5 combat planes. The so-called 4.5-generation fighters will be upgraded to have stealth functions, if needed.

4.5 Generation Aircraft. Stealth Functions to be added in future. Total Aircraft Planned: 120

When compared with European/NATO programs such as the Airbus/Dassault or the BAE/TAI 5th Generation programs they have significantly larger budgets with new engines. The aircraft is also designed from ground up for Low Observability.

IMO, South Korea should just procure F-35’s or F-15S

Trump promises Ankara to take necessary steps for F-35s: Turkish FM
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/trump-promises-ankara-to-take-necessary-steps-for-f-35s-turkish-fm-133978

U.S. President Donald Trump has promised Turkey that he would take necessary steps regarding F-35 fighter jets, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said.

Speaking at a televised interview on June 29, Çavuşoğlu said there were no problems with the procurement of F-35 warplanes from the United States so far, and he did not think there would be any problems in the future.

Çavuşoğlu said Turkey had conveyed discomfort about the issue to Trump, who said necessary steps would be taken.

A working group between Turkey and the U.S. will convene in Ankara on July 13 and another working group will meet later to discuss the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), he said.

“Turkey will not cut off trade ties with Iran at the behest of other countries,” he said after the United States this week told countries to cut all imports of Iranian oil from November.

“Iran is a good neighbor and we have economic ties. We are not going to cut off our trade ties with Iran because other countries told us so,” he stated.

“If the United States’ decisions are aimed at peace and stability, then we’ll support them, but we don’t have to follow every decision. Being allies doesn’t mean following every decision word for word,” he noted.

“The U.S. should not act on the issue of Iran upon Israel’s manipulation,” he said.

“Destabilizing a country like Iran will not benefit anyone; it will not benefit the U.S. either,” he added.

Syrian regime’s attacks in southern Syria

He also condemned the Syrian regime’s attacks on rebel-held towns in southern Syria and called on Russia and the U.S. to stop the offensive that has killed dozens of civilians.

Recalling that Russia and the U.S. earlier made a de-conflict zone deal for the region’s security, Çavuşoğlu said Russia and the U.S. should intervene amid the ongoing attacks there.

“The [Bashar al-] Assad regime attacked those areas. Who did the agreements? The U.S. and Russia. If those deals are broken, then the Geneva, Astana, Sochi meetings will be irrelevant,” he said.

With Russia’s help, Assad’s army has battered Daraa province for over a week with air strikes, rocket fire and crude barrel bombs.

June 28 was the bloodiest day yet after dozens of strikes identified as Russian killed 25 civilians, mostly in the town of Al-Mseifra, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

Looks like Donald Trump doesn’t want to loose the billions to Russia.

You begin again bayar..One of your thread is already closed due to your delutional fantasy thinking. Now again you degenerate KFX to your fantasy TFX.

Turkey is broke..KFX supported by much healthier economics nation..with much more advance RND than Turkey. You now saying not much RnD ?
You know nothing about KFX..stop showing your ignorance with fantasy.
KAI doing it on batches..they already prepared more internal bay in next batches..becaused they doing it on realistic approaches not fantasy approach like uou describe on TFX.

TFX is the one that should be put to lid..and just stay with buying F-35..as long as US still allowed it..

The topic here is not the TFX but rather the KFX.

The KFX cannot be a 5th Gen aircraft with a 4th Gen Engine and Fuselage Full Stop

P.S come back to me when Turkey reneges on its contracts. I am yet to hear Turkey not being able to pay for its contracts with BAE Systems and Rolls Royce. You still don’t understand how Turkey pays for its large ticket items. Perhaps you should google Qatars foreign reserve amounts! https://sputniknews.com/military/201803141062519866-turkey-qatar-increa…

Turkey is an unnamed partner in that program. Putin and Erdogan discussed this back during the discussions for the s-400

The Engines will be the most major subsystem (F414 engines from GE to be produced by Hanwha Aerospace). There are 4 categories components have been put into.
    1. Total Indigenous Development and Production
    2. Foreign Development assistance and Indigenous Production
    3. Licensed Production of Foreign components
    4. Purchase of Foreign components

Here is a list of all known US and UK companies with contracts for the KF-X.

Based on this it looks like a 4th Gen Aircraft (4.5 Gen) at most. Why not just purchase the F-35?

Not much R&D going into the platform by the look of things. I would have thought they would opt for a new engine, composite fuselage, network centricity, internal weapons bays etc.

I mean if Turkey can partner up with Rolls-Royce for a new engine why couldnt South Korea. They wont be able to export the KFX without US export certificates…

@haavarla President Erdogan has informed them that Turkey will under no circumstances abandon the S-400 purchase or co-operation with Russia on other platforms.

He added that if the US could guarantee that Congress would allow the export of Western equivalents to Turkey with ToT (e.g. THAAD etc), Turkey was also prepared to procure NATO standard weapons in addition to Russian systems BUT Turkey would not abandon Russian projects.

The Presidential Spokesman for Erdogan said that due to pre-existing threats made by Congress Turkey was obliged to hedge its risks and not rely on a single arms suppliers.

“There is no turning back from here. Deals have been made, signatures have been signed . They [S-400 missile systems] will be delivered next year. The transfer of technology was one of the most important things for us. We don’t want to just acquire and use this technology, we want to produce it,” said Kalın.

Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Lindsey Graham beg President Erdogan not to abandon F-35 program in favour of joining Russia’s Su-57 program.

Trump informs President Erdogan that he will veto any move by Congress to block the F-35 sale to Turkey.

BACKGROUND: Senator Shaheen had previously introduced a Bill to prevent the sale of the F-35 to Turkey. In response Turkey began negotiations for co-development of the S-500 and Su-57 with Russia. The US was hoping President Erdogan would be voted out this month but he won the elections with 53% of the vote.

@Deino If Turkish Aerospace Industries did that, the management would be charged with releasing misleading information seeking to manipulate the Istanbul Stock Exchang.

    @EagleSpirit with respect, I don’t quite follow…

@EagleSpirit the above magazine article was written just before the Heads of Agreement was signed with BaE systems on 28 January 2017. That is, during the negotiations with BaE systems.

The BAE Systems Replica was discussed during the pre-contract study phase between BAE Systems and TAI well before 2017.

    See https://www.baesystems.com/en/article/bae-systems-signs-heads-of-agreement-for-a-future-contract-with-turkish-aerospace-industries-for-tf-x-programme

You would note that the TF-X indigenous design and development program prime contract between Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) of Ministry of Turkish National Defence and Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TAI) has been signed on 5th of August 2016. See https://www.tai.com.tr/en/product/milli-muharip-ucak

Hence, the magazine article corresponds with the time frame during which TAI began discussing the TF-X with BAE Systems.

Turkish Aerospace Industries Magazine confirms that the TF-X will use the BAe Systems Replica program as a technological base for the TF-X.

So it looks as though, like the T129 program, Turkey has purchased the Intellectual Property Rights for the Bae Systems Replica program and is developing it further with Turkish-Subsystems and new technologies (co-developed with BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce) to create the TF-X.

On page two of the magazine one can see the prototype of the BAE Systems Replica (also reproduced below).

There was a time during the previous decade, when financial conditions were totally different, that there was actually some discussion about Greece acquiring on small harrier-compatible aircraft carrier. Just discussed, not officially examined with RfI etc. The rejection of the concept was unanimous because of one very simple reason (leaving aside other issues). This ship would had to operate in a theater of operations so heavily infested with all sorts of antiship weapons, that effectively it could simply not be safe to operate and at best, it would be restricted to port. How does Turkey plan to bypass this… problem?

The Turkish carriers are not being procured for coastal protection. Turkey has acquired large bases in Qatar, Somalia, Sudan and Djibouti. Turkey intends to have its carrier in the Indian Ocean and protect its sea lines of communication to these bases (primarily in the Arabian Sea).
