I guess the LCF will generally only operate short sectors the winglets might not earn their keep versus their own weight on short sectors.Payback only comes on longer sectors.Heres an extract on the japanese -400 domestic models
747-400D
The 747-400D (Domestic) is a high density seating model developed for short-haul domestic Japanese flights. Capable of seating 568 passengers, the aircraft is the highest-capacity passenger aircraft in the world, even when the Airbus A380 officially enters service. The -400D lacks the wing tip extensions and winglets included on other variants, allowing for increased number of takeoffs and landings by lowering wing stresses; the benefits of winglets would be minimal on short routes. The -400D may be converted to the long range version when needed.
The 747-400 Domestic first flew on March 18, 1991 and entered service with Japan Airlines on October 22, 1991.
There is a dispensation in the ANO allowing the rental of single seat aircraft below 910 kg weight.Been there for years. You wouldn,t get rich doing it though:) and here is the relevant extract
Public transport and aerial workβgeneral rules
157. β(1) Subject to the provisions of this article and articles 158 to 163, aerial work means any purpose (other than public transport) for which an aircraft is flown if valuable consideration is given or promised in respect of the flight or the purpose of the flight.
(2) If the only such valuable consideration consists of remuneration for the services of the pilot the flight shall be deemed to be a private flight for the purposes of Part 3 of this Order.
(3) Subject to the provisions of this article and articles 158 to 163, an aircraft in flight shall for the purposes of this Order be deemed to fly for the purpose of public transportβ
(a) if valuable consideration is given or promised for the carriage of passengers or cargo in the aircraft on that flight;
(b) if any passengers or cargo are carried gratuitously in the aircraft on that flight by an air transport undertaking, not being persons in the employment of the undertaking (including, in the case of a body corporate, its directors and, in the case of the CAA, the members of the CAA), persons with the authority of the CAA either making any inspection or witnessing any training, practice or test for the purposes of this Order, or cargo intended to be used by any such passengers as aforesaid, or by the undertaking; or
(c) for the purposes of Part 3 of this Order (other than articles 19(2) and 20(2)), if valuable consideration is given or promised for the primary purpose of conferring on a particular person the right to fly the aircraft on that flight (not being a single-seat aircraft of which the maximum total weight authorised does not exceed 910 kg) otherwise than under a hire-purchase or conditional sale agreement.
So………………………………………………. the crucial statement is in 3c (not being a single-seat aircraft of which the maximum total weight authorised does not exceed 910 kg) which implies the the flight is not public transport and therefore a Transport Cof A is not required even though the aircraft is hired.
Rollason Condor I,ve owned one for nearly 30 years ,cheap as chips good ones under Β£10000 all on permits nowadays rugged few woodwork problems compared to Jodels and superb handling qualities beautifully harmonised.Wide cabin and its got sticks who on earth would want a tailwheel with a yoke and an instrument panel that looks like a forties american car with handling to match. Go http://www.rollason-condor.co.uk
Anyone got a copy of the original accident investigation findings.I,ve been told the report makes very interesting reading but never been able to get my hands on a copy.Regards Stampe π
Tfly have 2 767-200s BYAA/B which are fitted with the engine normally fitted to the 300 an unusual engine airframe combination and which gives these two aircraft stunning field performance enabling long range flights to be undertaken off short runways compared to the standard 300 series or the the 200 series fitted with the older engines. So if a charterer typically a cruise line is willing to pay to have these aircraft operate a particular route they get them.Routine operations from LBA with all its attendant problems/weather most probably not economic or it would have happened.LBA is the most demanding airport to operate heavy jets from in the Uk sad to say for all you local enthusiasts.
Best bit for me the stunning Chinook display quite outstanding, and the hunter just lovely.More loos perhaps next time??.Great flights to and from if a little chilly on the way in.Thanks to Hairy plane for forcing me to fly his lovely aeroplanes again. π
Hairyplane and I should be there mid morning in his Magister and Falcon from Old Warden subject to wx come and say hello I,m the good looking slightly rounded one who only wears a growbag when actually in an aeroplane π

Old Fart your wish can come true ,the Southend based airworthy Prentice is for sale (and has been for a long time) price around Β£30k if I remember rightly. Also a good friend of mine has a stored example in Scotland in quite good condition which could be got flying relatively easily. In addition to the standard engine originally fitted, he has a 400hp engine as some of the export Prentices destined for hot climes had .That engine which is already certified for the Prentice would transform the grossly under powered Uk model into a much better aeroplane.Running costs will be high though.Get that cheque book out !!live the dream!!.Life is not a rehearsel . π
Nick don,t you know red is this years colour old boy, hairyplane and his hats Stampe and his garish cagoules!!.Of course the growbag/babygrow makes you look like one of those fixer chappies !!!.Very hard to keep the monocle in whilst wearing goggles. π
