    Short s16 scion

VH-UTV is my initially started and probebly longest continueing restoration project.
I started some 10 years ago and though the fus is now finished as far as the tubes are concerned other projects took over.
If you want to more information please let me know.
The one in Ulster VH-UUP is not improving with time and there are no wings in redhill.
    UTV is in Sydney, Australia.

With the picture of the Scion Senior I was reminded of the story, perhaps inaccurate but a good one anyway, of the cheif test pilot flying the 1/2 scale Stirling. He would be trundling along Soutern England ans a fighter would practice attack approaches. He would loop the 1/2 scale Stirling and get on the tail of the fighter.
This would leave a severly disturbed fighter pilot. Can anyone confirm this or shed some light?

    work in progress

there is a swift in mind and do you know of the Pobjoy website?
    http://www.pfjw.me.uk/pobjoystart.htm

The character who runs this website is visiting me in OZ at present and he apologizes that it is incomplete.

However the plot is to restore UVC with ACG and have both flying within a sensible time.

Because of my monica you may also know that a Short s16 Scion may well feature in the long term. We have parts for 3 engines and perhaps a little more! OH Joy! OH rapture!!!

    small groups

I could not agree more with Misha the Penguin. Big “stuff” can be accomadated by the large museums but individuals have been responsible for the collections which appear at Woburn every year.
“Lighties” made about every significant record advance in aviation during the inter war period and it was not untill WW2 that the nation needed aviation in such a way.
Because of financial needs then we have a Hornet Moth depart Shuttleworth and indeed this is probebly required because of the increase in activity but the small group is the way forward.

looks like typical Norn Irish weather for the move! When are they going to put a roof on the country?
However congrats on the move and I hope all goes well in the new place where/ever!

    Newnes

This is part of a larger work entitaled “Aero Engineering” published by “Newnes” during the pre-war period. It was released in several versions but basically 3 vols,Principles and construction, maintainance etc etc. Now the vol you have is a continuation vol with “Data sheets” and is an annex to the main work. This main work is very useful to anyone contemplating maintaining or restoring an aeroplane of such vintage as it is packed with information.— great bedtime reading and even on the contemplative bowl it makes for a fine read.

    Davski,
Certainly it has not been flying for some time though nominally she is airworthy. I would guess it would be an extended time before this happened the reason being that the aeroplane needs a through check and to fly such an aeroplane it requires a selection of skills not abundant today.
Doug flew her not often and he carried out some changes which were to improve it’s handling, particularly on the ground. These need to be reviewed and a final decision on flight status made.

I would like to work on both Swifts together and find a thumbnail of UVC to see how far I have to go. It is however better than it looks!

    Texantoncat,
Do you want the expurgated or unexpurgated version?
If the latter give me a day or so to put my thoughts in order as I am still perplexed/confused and excited with the thought of the possibilities to see a Pobjoy and Gipsy Swift in flight together.

    Comper Swift

Just to let the enthusiasts know this years project will be the bringing to airworthy status the two thumbnails or attached below. I got UVC with a lot of Pobjoy bits some years ago and it is in a dismantled state. Now with the help of Doug Muir’s Swift as a pattern of sorts I can get on with both.
    Wish me luck.
And offer any help with prayers, advice and “bits”

    Texantomcat,

    You are right,
It is and there is a retraction “wheel” on the right hand side for you to rotate 13 times to get the gear up. The last few turns are hard so you tend to “bunt” in order to get them to engage the up locks.

It is a British Klemm Eagle intermediate betwixt MK1 and Mk2.
    Another complicated story!
