As an enthusiast. When can I go in and have a good look around Scampton then please, before the asylum seekers arrive.
The new Scampton air show is doomed before it even starts then.
surely, if it was real and that low. The undercarriage would be down.
Hi viscount, I think I was in the Potters Bar / New Barnet area of North London. The aeroplanes turned to look like they were on their final approach to Heathrow? My job as a train driver see aeroplanes every day especially when driving down toward Kings Cross. Initially they wer definitely side by side in formation, at first I thought it was a jet fighter shadowing a 747, but when I got a little closer it looked too big for a jet fighter and more the size of a commercial airline. On turning South the 747 did take the lead, but was closely followed by the other aircraft. If you take London as South from my location they flew in from the east to west, then turned South.
WOW thank you for the information TT and Stephen. It was a few years ago now since I last visited. Definitely worth another visit now.
Apologies for my ignorance. Is this museum what was Sunderland aviation museum and if so is it all located in the same place or has it moved. Many thanks.
Forgive me for asking what is possibly a stupid question and may have an obvious answer. Why can the Canadian Lancaster give pleasure flights, but the British one can’t.
If it’s any help, I was on Oxford Street at about 4:45pm and looked up to see what looked like the Lufthansa JU-52 flying over head. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. May it have been up and about that early as well?
I must admit looking and listening to clips of this on You Tube, that is exactly what it sounded like.
I understand what is being said and yes there is a point.
But we have got the latest begging letters out, for her to do a tour of Britain and the more money that is put in the better the tour will be as it will not be financed by any other means. This sounds exciting and a good idea, but I live near Beverley in East Yorkshire and as far as I know she has not overflown this area in transit yet. Several times she has flown over Elvington like today, then heads back towards Robin Hood. I have bought merchandise, a fully paid up member and have funded her in various ways over the years. But I am not going to pay out huge sums of money if yet again she is not going to fly over East Yorkshire. Why should I fund something that once again other people are going to benefit and I am not. This may sound like a selfish point I am making, but I do believe these transit flights could be more varied so that more people benefit. You never know if they gave a rough itinery of her grand tour of Britain, then more people might come forward for funding.
Thank you for your replies.
No the one I was meaning was around 1985/86 and was complete (or at least looked it from the road) So it must have been XH563. Unless XL384 also stood in that place in complete condition for a period of time. But from driving by in the car, I recall only seeing the one standing there.
Let me run a scenario by you, which I am sure will open some debate. This is all of course Hyperthetically speaking.
Say Bruntingthorpe identified a lightning that could possibly be put back to airworthy status. They did the required work on said aeroplane and was subject to strict inspection and testing. Once in airworthy condition a restriction is placed on the aeroplane that it is only to be displayed at that airfield and must not under any circumstances, transit across Britain to other airshows. Bruntingthorpe then would have an airworthy lightning, Bucaneer or whatever to display at their airshow 2 or 3 times per year. Would the CAA still have the same restrictions and limitations for something such as this.
