I agree, it makes me mad, at least the guy that wrote the book Jaws has become an advocate for the Great White, although the film Jaws and all of its hype still does a lot of damage. I have not seen any other of the films about sharks on principle…just my own small protest! 😀

There is a part of me that worries about doing a shark dive. Are people doing it to make money or is the money going towards research etc? Part of me would love to do a shark dive but then I feel that I am invading their space, when I have no right to. People that live in ‘shark infested waters’ (doesn’t that phrase annoy you?) complain when they see sharks in the water when they are surfing etc. My brother lives in Australia, he is nervous of sharks so he swims at a local swimming pool… bit like people that live in Florida and complain about alligators being in their back garden, so they shoot them – when the reality is they are in fact returning to their birthplace..and this goes from generation to generation….um will stop there before I start ranting. I am passionate about these animals…can you tell?

Well that two hours flew by!!! Oh I only managed 56 minutes before I got withdrawal from this forum! 😀
That 4th photo with the greenie hue to it is quite atmospheric isn’t it? – the shark has definately got something on his mind…maybe dinner?

Well Daz, my dear brother thought he would scare he little sister by sitting with her whilst Jaws was on. I got scared of the view sitting on the sofa looking out of the window, as I could see the drainpipe and I was convinced it was Jaws coming to eat me! My mum worked hard to convince me that the drainpipe couldn’t eat me and that there weren’t any sharks in the garden. I then got given a book about them and have been intruiged by them ever since! – some 25 years or so 😮

At school we were asked what our ambitions were – the girls answered cute things like be a vet, be a dancer etc, the boys were going to be footballers – me I wanted to be a shark diver! (me that’s scared of large expanses of water!)

As an adult I have just taught myself little bits of info about them and just love being educated about them.

You taught me something earlier as I didn’t know you had Porbeagle sharks up in Scotland, and especially ones that can grow up to 14 ft in length! so thank you!

I have always found them fascinating, and greatly misunderstood. I love learning about things and have an interest in various sharks etc. As you know I also love alligators, and found it fascinating that there are certain types that burrow up to 10 metres under ground to hibernate in a way, during the dry season.

When ever I go abroad and am offered fish soup I always turn it down – part of me just can’t help thinking of shark fin soup….no just makes me angry what those sharks go through for a so called delicacy!:(

I have been lucky enough to go to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, where they do superb research, and look forward to returning there in March! 🙂

How did your interest in sharks start?

I’d love a shark tooth necklace, but I doubt my other half would let me get one 🙁

Decision time – essay now or ironing first? or surf time on here? My nodding shark balanced on my monitor makes me laugh – I also have a nodding alligator for motivation! 😀

Is the second one from a Great White?

Great pictures but they are too much of a distraction for me! I still have nursing stuff to do and then joy of joys the ironing! 😀

WOW Daz! :):D What amazing photos. They brought tears to my eyes – strange reaction but beautiful pictures. I love the one of the two Great Whites. Thank you so much both of you (you and Corsair166b) for posting those pictures – made my evening.

What an experience to have them that close to you, I must experience that once I qualify as a nurse (hopefully Dec 2006!)

    Thanks again
