I can tell you that after 30 years neither the body or the face are much to look at!
Thanks to everyone for your messages; I’ve got the feeling that this stage of my life is going to be the most rewarding. 🙂
Cheers, I’ll look forward to that; just ask for the ugly one!
Thanks! Everyone’s been saying that.
Private Collection (the Indian Head bit is the clue…)
Quite liked the grenade in the tin of Cassoulet myself; although that stew of beans, pork and goose fat is quite explosive enough without any form of assistance……
Perhaps he wanted a reply this year….. 😀
Regarding the Vampire I have seen it referred to as the ‘Spider Crab’. Also the Argosy’s somewhat ruder nickname came from the RAF version having a nose mounted radar in a small radome, giving the mammarian appearance – of course the NZ operated examples being non-military, lacked this feature.
One of my favourites – Gazelle (whistling chicken leg)
Well done Keith – after a twenty year hiatus (painful :p ) I have got back into the hobby, but as yet unable to do anything other than to buy up loads of kits in case it’s another twenty before any of them get built…..have you seen the thread on ‘Hyper Scale’ about the 1/48 scratch-built Halifax?
The man must be certifiable….. 😮
Top images guys; takes me back to my own days in Changi as a youngster. Dad was posted there from 67-69, and we lived at the end of the runway.
Enduring memories…..the 34 Squadron disbandment flypast of twelve Beverleys around the island; riding in the nose of a Shackleton at low level over the sea; the first C-130’s arriving; an RB-57 at the Tengah airshow (that wing… 😮 ) Bristol Freighters!!
The Blackburn Blackburn comes close, but the ugliest has to be shared between the Blackburn Buccaneer and the HS146. I’ve studied ’em both from inside and outside the cockpit, and I’ve yet to find a view of either that looks good!
A
Oi!! Leave my 146’s alone! A rare thing of beauty she is, and British through and though (Apart from the engines, the APU, most of the avionics……..) 🙂
Looks like Changi to me; I was there 67-69 and that pic looks very familiar. Don’t ask me why they painted it like that, tho’
There used to be one at the end of the runway at Changi which was used for the firemen to play with – me and a bunch of mates would go into it at weekends and scramble about until it was too badly burnt to get into anymore; happy days!
The Electra cockpits were on e-bay a while ago, no takers then???
How long have you got? I stayed in Bayeux last year for three days, there is so much to see in the area we only scratched the surface;
Bayeux Museum with its Spitfire (surprisingly quite a lot of the airframe on display)
Arromanches (bit sea-sidey but good for the Mulberry harbour)
Omaha Beach (very quiet and thought-provoking)
Juno Beach (Small museum. Again, makes you think)
the Musee des Epaves at Port-en-Bessin has some very intriguing pieces brought up from under the sea; you can even buy prop blades there!
In 2002 I was near Lisieux, and visited St Mere l’Eglise (bit far away, but good museum and a very focal point of the landings) also the Peace memorial in Caen itself, that’s a big place, so you would need a good length of time to go round there. They have a MiG-21 in the basement! No idea how they got it in there! 😮
I’ve yet to do Pegasus Bridge, but it’s on the list as a ‘one day’
Plus of course the cemeteries, always the cemeteries….. 🙁 Lest we forget.
Elliniki Polemiki Aeroporia?? Oxi photo! OXI PHOTO!! OXI PHOTO!!! :p
Well, the serial on the tail looks like ‘610’ and ‘Scramble’ have that as a JP T.52 – going by the photo it’s definitely a JP rather than a Strikemaster.
Interesting pic, tho’…let’s hope that there’s lots more stuff out there, looks like they never chucked anything away!
