    RE: Your nearest BIG airport?

My nearest would be Liverpool (LPL) followed closely by Manchester (MAN)

    RE: bmi baby Manchester

I heard BA was going to up the amount of flights they are to operate between Manchester and Belfast, considering how they fared against Easyjet from Liverpool to Belfast, ie they gave up, they may now reconsider. Bmi baby may affect Easyjet at LPL however I cant see them letting bmi baby just walk in and grab everything, it will be a similar situation to what it was like in London with “GO” at Stansted and Easyjet at Luton.

    RE: Jet2 Experiance!

I like the Livery of Jet2 a lot, hope they do well. Great that you can sample all these destinations at a reasonable rate. I know when Easyjet openned a base here at Liverpool I started to go a bit mad and booked up loads of weekends away. I’ve been to them all now except Geneva, and not had a weekend in Paris yet only a day !! Plus Alicante to think about now as well which I understand is a nice city to visit.

    RE: CSA

At one time CSA used to have some good fare from the UK to places like Bangkok via their base. im sure how extensive their long-haul network is these days. I would think Prague would be a pretty hassle-free transfer airport as opposed to some of the larger European options.

    RE: 747 SP

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-01-03 AT 04:50 PM (GMT)]Thanks for all the responses !! By the way i have a hunch that the reason SAA purchased 747SP’s was because at one time they had fly around the African continent. This meant that the regular 747s had to re-fuel at SAL which is a small island off the African west coast, where as the “SP” could do the trip to Europe non-stop !!??

    RE: News Items/Review.

I remember they flew the 747SP which I always found an interesting aircraft to look at, i guess from inside nothing too different, just shorter than a normal 747 !!?? Longer wings and a higher tail I think they had.

    RE: Report on London Manston.

Found your report on Manston very interesting. i used to live in Kent and have to say my visits to Manston at that time were not very fruitfull so I hope the future is brighter for the airport. I particularly enjoyed the Invicta International report and you confimed for me that they did fly B720s for a short while at least.

    RE: London City Airways?

They flew out of LCY at the same time as Brymon and competed on routes to Paris, they also flew to Amsterdam, and maybe some other destinations i don’t recall . They did struggle, did not have the advantage that Brymon had with their tie-up with AF on the CDG run. I think they were part of Airlines of Britain group (BD) and in the end the routes and aircraft were taken over by BD who remained at LCY for a while then pulled out and deposed of the Dash 7s. I flew on them to Paris and Amsterdam and found the service very good. I was working in travel at the time and remember they always had reasonable fares available which normally indicates a not too full cabin.

In the end it would not surprise me to hear that the airline had completely stopped operating. It would be a shame really as they do seem to have persevered and stuck at it.

Aer Arran, seems a proffesional outfit. i think the Irish government may well have been better sticking with them than Euroceltic. I have read that Waterford Airport is about to close, if Euroceltic stop their flights to there. Its strange really because that was why the Euroceltic started, so that they could offer flights to Waterford.

I think you are right, they will just end up with the Irish government supported routes.
