    RE: Sheffield Disaster!!!!

I don’t think there is the room to extend the runway at Sheffield, so I think charters will be out ! There are quite a few airports nearby, but at the wrong time of the day driving to them is abit of a nightmare. I don’t know what the future will be for it but Amsterdam would be probably the most important link.

Its a sorry state of affairs. Im very sad for Sheffield Airport, its a nice little terminal, such a shame !I think maybe they are left with just the seasonal Jersey flights.

    RE: Low Cost Airlines?????

The “Low Cost Carriers” are not always that, however its is often possible to get good fares with them and it had made BA etc offer some more reasonable fares. The Saturday night restrictions imposed by the main-stream carriers have penalized people for far too long as have high one-way fares. It is also useful that the likes of Easyjet will let you change the ticket or name with a nominal fee £10.00. If you have an Apex or something with BA or the likes, you would have no chance.

The low-cost carriers have also opened routes which were not available before ie LPL-NCE,LPL-PMI and LPL-AGP from Easyjet. STN-NQY from Ryanair and so on.

    RE: Airline Liveries

I agree the new BD colour scheme is really nice. Didnt like the last one much (ie the Dark Blue Diamond service type) but liked the one before which was a stylized arrow on the tail pail blue with BMA on it.

Does anyone know what BMI actaully stands for ?? is it British Midland International, although I understood they denied that. I have never heard or seen them use that name to confirm it one way or the other. It must mean something ??!!

RE: Lo-Cost Airlines? (Sunday Mail Supplement)

Yes I saw the supplement, by accident because I dont normally have the Mail on Sunday, and yes I thought it good. It seem up to date with new routes etc and not London biased which is often the case with these travel sections.

    RE: B737 with transatlantic capabilities!

I seem to remember that that was Lakers idea with “Skytrain” to the US, no food included, just a seat. Treat yourself to something nice from M & S food dept for your flight and have something tasty in economy for a change !

    RE: B737 with transatlantic capabilities!

Interesting idea, particularly for opening up smaller markets maybe with direct flights. My local airport is Liverpool we have had 757s operating Orlando charters, plus specials to NYC. I have often thought with all the interest American have with the Beetles etc a direct NYC-LPL service might be attractive for someone with the right equipment. This long-range 737 might be it ?? Personally it wouldn’t bother me that is was smaller than the 767s etc which run out of MAN, because I find being able to get off a smaller plane quicker, therefore attractive. I hate that endless wait when you are on a wide-boy as it off-loads its passengers. Imsure there must be lots of interesting route combinations.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-04-02 AT 09:17 PM (GMT)]A development from my area by FR is LPL-Charleroi/Brussels South from June. Once daily initialy, tobe increased along with other routes by FR from LPL. Easyjet are increasing LPL-BFS from 6 to 7 per day and LPL-NCE from 1 to 2 per day. Also very good news about the the new LPL-CDG by easyjet from May

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-03-02 AT 07:22 PM (GMT)]I have a soft spot for the Dc-10. first time I flew on one was LGW-JFK with Laker. Was never as keen on the Tristar. Also liked the 727 because very few UK airlines have ever had them Dan-air 727-100 and 200s. I think Sabre Airways bought some of these after Dan-air. Only flew on the type twice. Split to LHR with JAT and Miami to Kingston with Eastern. Strange really because there was so many. I still see them at Liverpool opperating cargo for TNT or DHL. Best DC-10 logos CP air and UTA. Also DAS cargo of Uganda looks good
