RE: The loss of regional routes
I think it fair to say some East-Coast Airports have suffered since Air UK (now KLM uk) chopped all there routes in that area. Tees Side at least still has there BD link to LHR, they cut ours (Liverpool) years ago. This was mainly because they wanted the LHR slots for their then new Paris service & I think BA out of Manchester didn’t help . The chances of a LPL-LHR service now is next to nil, we would have to go to Manchester, drive or train & coach. At least Easyjet has put faith in my local airport where some long established carriers haven’t.
RE: PIK-Beauvais…732 or 738?? (FR)
We get the same (mainly)737-200 from Liverpool to Dublin, would like to see them do a bit mre here with regards to new routes. Maybe they will when the new terminal opens next spring, then there will be more capacity available.
RE: The loss of regional routes
You would think with the state of the rail system in the uk we would have much better air connections to the capital, very often it is easier & cheaper to fly to places like Amsterdam than to get a plane to London.
RE: Liverpool John Lennon Airport
Liverpool is my local airport, im unsure about the name change myself, however I do think it is a good marketing idea for the airport and Liverpool to attract people outside the UK, such as USA and Japan who are very keen on The Beatles. There are many airports in the USA named after famous people “John Wayne” “JFK” and now I understand “Louis Armstrong” for New Orleans.
I wonder what Paul Mccarkney thinks about Liverpool John Lennon Airport ?
RE: Regional airlines
yes I think Liverpool is getting there but it’s been difficult when you have an airport Like Manchester not too far away! Anyway Easyjet are now carrying more people to Amsterdam from Liverpool than BA out of MAN, also they carry the most people to Belfast from the Northwest. I know what you mean about BA giving up routes, many regional links to the capital have suffered over the years. Norwich has not had a London route for years since Eastern Airways used Dc3s in Heathrow ( I think ? ). Not the same as the Eastern Airways flying East Coast routes today.
RE: Sheffield City
I once flew from London City to Sheffield with BA on a Jetstream 41. Its a shame the service did not survive. I remembered when we landed they did an engine test before they would let us off the plane, not sure why ? I visit Sheffield for work reasons quite often and normally call pass the airport (sometimes have lunch there). Have seen a Sabena dash 8 land once and pull up straight away. It flew back around then landed successfully.
RE: Regional airlines
I did fly with Jet airways once from Calcutta to Guwahti (in Assam) I don’t remember too much about the food, I think it was fine and a big improvement on Indian Airlines who I returned with ! They were efficient and I would travel with them again.

RE: Regional airlines
Liverpool has grown very rapidly recently particularly with Easyjet making it, its second base (several 737s are based there now plus hangarage). In addition charter traffic started to grow when Direct Holidays put faith in the airport about 6 years ago. Next year I think all the main holiday companies will be represented, this will coincide with the new terminal opening. However we could do with a smaller operator to link us with cities which would not support a 737 ,Guernsey is one ! So are places like Aberdeen and London. London is desperate as the train appaling. Its good that Easyjet Ryanair and others have put faith in Liverpool Airport, as most Manchester based airlines have shown very little support. I flew to Guernsey once from Liverpool several years ago with Air Corbiere. The service to both Jersey and Guernsey was daily using a variety of aircraft including a Metroliner, which I flew on via Coventry, it was great. It was a shame the operation stopped as it appeared popular. BA have recently stopped their Belfast City service from here, basicly as they are loosing passengers to Easyjet’s Belfast International service, however BA have done nothing to compete effectively. I dont welcome the move as it reduces choice.
I dont know too much about Guernsey Airport, isn’t the runway length restricted ??

I agree with you,I also think segregation is not a good idea , it doesnt breed understanding amoungst people and would probally encourage more bigots. I have never had any problem flying with “straight” airlines.
RE: Regional airlines
Hi
My local airport is Liverpool, and i use it quite often. We are poorly served by regional airlines which is a shame. The main operator is Easyjet who ive used quite a bit. There food is fine, sandwiches which you have to buy but they are good. Did fly quite recently on BA from LHR to MAN was given a filled roll which tasted completely of garlic ! discusting ! and so was the price of the ticket!
RE: bmi british midland
Hi
Not been on it but would like to know what you think. I looked into it as a way to get to New Orleans but too expensive, im flying Lufthansa instead. Last year went ot Boston with Aer lingus also on A330. I thought it a very nice aircraft and very nice seating (green and gold)
RE: Freedom Airlines
As a gay lad I noticed this start-up operation, but as far as I could see it would never have been sucessful. The routes that were suggested were so diverse from places like Ibiza to Sydney. Someone hadnt thought it through !
