    RE: Madrid

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-10-02 AT 04:39 PM (GMT)]Yes, I agree. I went there once and saw quite a few Latin Amercan carriers which I had never seen before also its probally the best place to see Iberia wide bodies. I remember seeing IB DC-10s and 747s which was a first for me. Apparently Madrid has one of the longest runways in Europe.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Keenair have gone very quiet, no one seems to know what they are now planning. Will let you all know as and when something develops. I flew on VLM’s service recently and found it very good, particularly for the price, not sure how they will make it pay with only 50 seats !

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-09-02 AT 07:36 PM (GMT)]Im flying to London City tomorrow morning on VLM’s new service out of MAN, then back on Friday. Looking forward to the short flight. London City is open on a Sunday, but it doesn’t really start to get going until the afternoon/evening. Saturday is their really quiet day.

I find it the most stress-free of the London Airports to use. I have flown from/to there several times and will be again soon as VLM are starting MAN-LCY tomorrow. Also one of best friends lives 5 mins from the terminal so, that very handy for me !!

RE: are budget airlines trying to take over europe !!!

This is weird I also flew MAN-AMS-JNB with KLM, last December. I would prefer to fly from LPL as its more handy for me and ok I could have done on Easyjet. However like you i flew KLM because they would check me through etc. Got to MAN checked-in waved good buy to the luggage and was present with both boarding cards. Got to the gate ( I was travelling with my partner) we looked at the boarding cards for MAN-JNB and we weren’t even sitting together (I was under the impression my travel company had done this, however !) I asked at the gate, the same girl who had checked me in was there and just said quite un-interested, im sorry there is nothing I can do about it, ask in Amsterdam. i was annoyed at her attitude, but I was even more annoyed that she hadn’t even bothered to mention this to me at check-in. So we were feeling abit down thinking that we wouldn’t be able to speak to one another the whole way to JNB. Got on the F100, yuck !! cramped, lighting dull, food even more yuck. If i was just going to Amsterdam I would always pick Easyjet, the plane is more comfortable and roomy, plus the food (if you want it) is as good as an M & S sandwich you might buy.

As luck would have it, got to the gate at AMS, was dealt with a very helpfull KLM representative, who was under a lot of pressure (this was between xmas & new year). The flight was packed (unlike MAN-AMS) and he worked his magic, we walked onto the 747 and sat in business for our flight to JNB !! So maybe the stroppy cow in MAN did us a favour, who knows, but I agree service can vary on the large national carriers. Generally I think for short hops around Europe the low-cost airlines are fine.

I was not as lucky on the return and flew economy CPT-AMS, but there was a big difference again when I stepped on the F100 at AMS to fly back to MAN as compared to the service on the long-haul.

    RE: Liverpool John Lennon

How is it in Spain, regarding domestic travel, are the fares more reasonable than in UK. As you have confirmed apart from where there is intense competition, here you pay high fare ( ie Mancheshter to Scotland)My ticket from Manchester to Norwich was around £200.00 for 50mins including tea and a biscuits !! Bargain !! I don’t think! Although I realise a route such as that would never attract massive volumns of business.

Will keep it in mind, as I know they offer quite good fares to the East.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-08-02 AT 07:10 PM (GMT)]Yes I think LPL-EDI would be a good route as would LPL-ABZ (the later is one which has run in the past, and was popular) These flights from MAN are generally expensive. If you look to see what Easyjet have done between the Northwest and Belfast, which now stand at 6 or 7 737s per day as opposed to what was on offer previous, im sure there is scope for an improvent on services up to Scotland. I have used the rail to Glasgow, that wasnt too bad and very picturesque!

    RE: Liverpool John Lennon

Should have flown today with Eastern Airways this morning MAN-NWI-MAN. However due to thick fog at MAN this flight (and many others) was delayed from 0805 until 12.00. As I was comming back at 1520, there seemed little point going, so will go next Thursday now. Drove back to the office passed Liverpool John Lennon is brilliant sunshine, it a shame the flight was’nt operating from there as I would have made my appointment! Apparently there were some diverts to LPL from inbound MAN flights, Lufthansa for example.

    RE: Biman to lease 777’s

I have always found Biman interesting, being that they have quite an extensive network, based in a country that has more than its fair share of troubles. I hope they are successful, has anyone flown on them ??? Scheduled DC-10 operators are getting few and far between these days, the 777 introduction to their fleet should boost their profile.

p.s is their safety record ok, seem to think they may have lost some aircraft ?? maybe F28s ?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-08-02 AT 12:52 PM (GMT)]Yes heard this on the radio news last night. i have also heard Keenair may have lost interest in beginning LPL-LCY, as VLM are to begin a similar service out of MAN, also EZY and FR are still rumoured tobe considering LPL-LGW(ezy) & LPL-STN(fr). I think we only need one London link both Easyjet and Ryanair would have more marketing power than Keenair and although personaly I would prefer a service to LCY, maybe either of the other to options would be generally mre popular. A route to London is particularly need now with the Northwest mainline is in a mess at the weekends.

    RE: Europe’s Worst Airport?

That is just so depressing !! Im sure the promoters for the Commonwealth Games would have been upset to here such comments, i hope so anyway.

As a white person the only time ive experienced any feeling of racism was while speaking to a lady black bus driver in a New orleans suburb, it kinda took me by surprise.
