Their was a carrier called Air Bristol, I think they becam AB Airlines. They operated a charter for BAe to Toulouse and Liverpool from Filton using a BAc-1-11

    RE: Ryanair turboprop aircraft???

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-05-02 AT 08:59 PM (GMT)]Euroceltic are at the moment not operating any regular service from LPL. Occasional services to WAT have operated on football charters. Their servies stopped basicly because of poor loads on the Luton route from Liverpool and this can only attributed to the lack of promotion of the service. Easyjet offered LPL-LTN and carried very healthy loads, but fell out with Luton over their landing fees and stopped it. I flew on Euroceltic a few times, and was always amazed to see any others on it ! i wondered how the other passengers ever discovered it. Their other major problem was the fact that their second F.27 was taken out of service ( and I dont know if it ever came back) for technical reasons. They chatered in other aircraft including a British World ATP which i flew on.

I understand their LPL-WAT service started off well, but by this time they were suffering aircraft problems.

To answer the original question Ryanair started out I think with a EMB flying LGW-WAT, they also had an ATR 42 for a while and they charter an HS 748 both of which they used through LPL several years ago.

    RE: Airline Names

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-05-02 AT 07:49 PM (GMT)]It would have tobe based at my local airport Liverpool, I think I would probably offer links to places which may have too small a market for Easyjet and Ryanair. ABZ has been served from here several times in the past and been popular, also GLA,EDI. I would also launch a much more regular service to JER and introduce for the first time in (SAAB you may know when this last operated ??) god knows how long GCI. We need a London link from here, if EZY start a LGW run I might offer LCY, but it might not be worth competing with them, anyway you never know the trains may even improve!!!! Other places I would consider would be those which take ages to drive to Cambridge, Exeter and Cardiff, Newcastle. Not sure about mainland Europe have to have a think on that one, maybe somewhere in Normandy/Brittany.

My other thought would be a Trans-Atlantic service to tap into the Beattles interest over there and bring them direct. I realise this would put me into competition with established U.S services from MAN, so it would need alot of thought. NYC would be the obvious, but its already well served!

Aircraft probably go for ATR 42 and 72, but I like the Dash 8s so may a couple of different types of those. The U.S service, I’d go for an A330 for preference, but a 757 maybe better and cheaper !!

Oh a name Liverpool Express maybe

    RE: News flash!!!

They certainly seem very successful, I have used them quite alot as they are the major carrier at my local airport (Liverpool) and have a good range of destinations from there. Flew with them recently to Amsterdam, both flight full. Ryanair are also successful and we are going to see more of them here at LPL soon (New Brussels service and other routes to follow).

As far as im concerned the “majors” showed little or no interest at offering links from here, Easyjet and now Ryanair did and they have captured a large and growing percentage of the market. The Travel-Trade press hate it !! As someone who worked in the industry for over 10 years I find their attitude very backward-thinking. They do not seem to want to embrace the (not so new now!) low-cost phenomenon, so people will just book direct.

    Regards

I agree I think there is a limit to what MAN can cope with demand-wise. A west coast route may have been a better bet SFO or LAX maybe.

RE: How are BMI’s transatlantic services doing?

    Hi

I tried to fly on BMI in Feb this year to get to New Orleans. Everything was going fine until there was a schedule change.I would have ended up waiting in CHI for longer than the flight took to get from Manchester over there. I tried to alter to fly via Washington but they just couldn’t sort it out. in the end I scapped the who thing and went US Airways, which was fine, and on their new A330, very nice !!
To answer your question, I understand they are still not doing that great, I think they launched the routes to try and prompt a LHR- US decision.

    RE: Two Extremes

I am quite looking forward to it, i think you should get a “real” flying feel to it. Been on other small aircrafts before several J31,Sabena Beechcraft and a Twin Otter of Brymon, and found them all quite fun.

    Hi

I have flown on an A340 of Sri Lankan, and found it quite nice, I like the fact that you can get 2 seat together and u are not stuck with having a row with 3 seat.

Well ive heard they rank as one of the best. Been to Sri Lanka before with Sri Lankan Airlines (Ex Air Lanka). It was fine (A 340) except the reurn flight where we had to retutn to Colombo twice because the wheels would not retract !

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-04-02 AT 11:47 AM (GMT)]Its also strange that the Government doesn’t seem to mind the fact that from many regional airport around the UK its far easier to fly to Amsterdam for onward connections than LHR. I do not believe that this is in the countries best interests, however I can see why people do it (I do !!) LHR is a nightmare and not very user friendly. I do still think it is important that the capital has good links to the regions of the UK and LHR is the main airport for transfer connections.
