19:43 tonight over Detling flying in loose formation a number of monoplanes and biplanes.
Grabbed a couple of haphazard shots from long range and only this one was any good at all. It contains a DH Chipmunk and what appears (to me) to be a Fw-44 bearing a code of NV+KG (last letters could be X or Q).
Any ideas of the rest of the formation or who, where from/to?
Its a small (390m long) private grass strip, quite close to the services. Access is by prior permission only. Has a very impressive array of electricity pylons down one side to focus your attention!

Again. Best wishes to the pilot and to his family.
Thanks very much – Kent born and bred and I never knew that – so which is correct? Farthing Corner or (as I heard) Rochester?
Lovely pics but dare I say spoilt by the diagonal copyright. Can you not put it along the bottom or in a corner?
We all start somewhere and they are miles better than some of my early efforts – Kodak 110 anyone? :p
What are you using Keith?
First I saw of this was on the news this morning and they appear to have got it more correct.
No mention of ‘biplane’ and staing it took off from Rochester Airport.
I am from Maidstone and not aware of an airfield at Farthing Corner only the M2 services. I am open to enlightenment on that tho.
Again best wishes for recovery to the pilot.

Spitfire over Maidstone
PRU blue Spit heading N/NE about lunch time today (Sat). Didn’t appear to have invasion stripes on the underside but couldn’t tell much else about its ID I am afraid. Any ideas who and where from and to?
Just got in having heard the news around 7pm. My condolences to the pilot and his family.
Thanks for the enlightenment Kev,
Just that the church guide does not explain the link but neither does it offer much explanation for the dedication of the magnificent E window by Tiffany’s.
I think its very touching that the crew are remembered as well on his memorial as they all perished the same day.
Hi Trumper,
Its painted on the reverse of a paving slab so must have been added above the grave itself.
Interestingly there is no account in the village as to why he is buried here and also how the epitaph includes ‘and of his crew’
Thanks for that – not seen it before.
Was down at Minnis Bay on the Isle Of Thanet, Kent on Sat and caught a Spitfire (no idea which) peeling away from Manston direction and heading NW. Slightly later was at Botany bay in the same area and a red painted Stearman with USN markings / broad white stripes flew round the headland and proceeded to buzz the shipping in the channel before heading back round the headland of N Foreland. Any ideas on the ID’s.
Perhaps the Spit was rehearsing for Lydd next weekend.
Just checked the registrations and yes deffo these two as I recall the brit example had the early war fuselage roundels.

Thanks,
Didn’t know where to start with this one. I guess it/ they are based on the little strip at the foot of the downs there next to the A24?
Shame I couldn’t alter my settings quick enough for air shots but some were ok.
Some of mine added
These are all scans so please excuse the quality.
