Carbs and Cardys!! 🙂
Oh powerandpassion – you’ve made my day! I’ve been laughing now for the last five minutes and am still chuckling as I write!!! :highly_amused: :highly_amused:
Nothing like a good chat on the subtleties of flanges…! 😉
But so where’s the photo of you? And your cardy?
I’ve had a feeling it is from a radial – though I can’t explain exactly why. Would’ve been lovely for me if it were from a P&W Twin Wasp – and nice & easy to explain the archaeology of….but unfortunately not [!]. The aircraft engine adaptation / tank use is sounding quite promising – am trying to see what I can find along that line now.
Thank you 🙂
Hi Zidante, ooh very nice manual. Thank you! I may have to look into investing….
Don’t know why you say it may not be worth fixing though…. 🙂
Hi Pete, ah yes, it can’t be a “S” 🙂 Sorry, I’m a bit slow on replying – we’ve been having power issues in Darwin today!
You’re bang on; the Venturi size is 3 1/8″. Am I right in understanding now that that’s what the “12” signifies in the model code?
I’ve wondered too if it is instead an automotive or marine engine part. My gut feeling was that it was aircraft, largely due to size and that it seemed too pretty [for want of a better word] to be anything else – looking at the use of safety wire to secure bolts etc. We have actually found some auto parts – including some Australian version universal carrier parts – dumped nearby, but they used plain old Ford V8 engines. It could very possibly a larger vehicle or tank though; I don’t know much about tank engines – I’ll definitely look into that. Thank you 🙂
Hi Avro Avian,
I’m very glad to hear you say that the Allison V1710 F series had parallel, pressure injection carbs. I was looking into those as there is still a missing Kittyhawk P-40E wreck somewhere in the water up here and I was trying to make certain that I wasn’t looking at part of that! Thank you very much for confirming that I can rule that out 🙂
Very interesting to hear that there was a Stromberg NA-S12; I originally thought I could see a “5” in front of the “12” but that could have been an “S”. I’ll see if I can track down some info on them.
Thanks again 🙂
Thanks heaps BobKat 🙂
I couldn’t help noticing the price estimate on this….I wonder if anyone will be interested in buying my one…!
Thank you so much Ian, you’re a star!
Stainless is amazing – these pieces are coming out of the water completely encrusted and after a bit of cleaning look as good as new!
Thanks again 🙂
