The Airport Days were excellent for propliner enthousiasts. I have some pictures online at http://www.flickr.com/photos/64649127@N00/sets/72157602047058073/detail/ (six pages; click on the pictures for larger formats).

No, the aircraft will be used for display flying only. According to the FAA Registry, the airworthyness certificate of N749NL has the classification ‘experimental’ and it’s in the category ‘exhibition’.

I agree Roger, it was very annoying indeed. Many of my shots were ruined that way, but I managed to take some clear one’s. Shame you left though; you should have stayed for just the sight and sound of the Connie by night…

PS That’s right Roger, I’m a ‘Leienaar’ as well…

Fortunately, several aircraft were rescued from the hangar, including the B-17, B-25 and the C-47. See http://www.localhangar.com/cgi-bin/clubs/club_home.pl?CLUBNO=3.
Nice pics Stieglitz!
I also attended the show yesterday. It certainly was one of the best airshows in the Netherlands in recent years. Thanks for your illustrated report!

Catalina PH-PBY flew for the second time this week. I’ve seen her fly over my hometown Leiden (near Valkenburg NAS) about two hours ago. What a magnificent sight and sound!
I’ve been told that this specific PBY (c/n 300; BuNo 2459) is the oldest airworthy example and the top scoring antisubmarine aircraft of any nation and any type.
A short Quicktime movie (no sound) of her first flight on 4 August last can be found on http://www.neptune-association.nl/main/movies.html

These pics are fantastic! I especially like the one of the DDA DC-3 (PH-DDZ) since I was onboard yesterday 😉
Don’t know why we were parked on the other side of the field though…

Yes, I think so.
The seal has some essential elements from the seal of Lelystad (http://www.ngw.nl/l/lelystad.htm), the capital of the province of Flevoland: the sealion struggling to come out of the water. This clearly reflects the history of Flevoland, which was reclaimed from the IJssellake (IJsselmeer) in the 1940’s.
