I took the photos and they are different.
As Dave said I supplied several different images to each but they went for the same idea.
I did try my best to avoid it, as Dave also said it was a quick flight and that kind of image best suited the needs for each magazine and despite my best efforts it happened, the images were not identical as supplying the same image to two magazines is pretty dumb and is something I would never do.

The Mossie was such a popular aeroplane and the magazine deadlines clashed and no one wanted to wait until the second flight.

However being a photographer from a little country like New Zealand I was quite proud to have two covers at the same time, yes the images are close but both editors were happy as I asked them afterwards and to them the stories within were as important.

We used a T-28 as camera plane, had the aircraft on the left and right sides with left and right hand orbits and submitted images of both but they went for the same thing.

Nice work Gavin, I do believe a mate of mine was the Herc Captain. I’ll refer him onto this page.

Thanks Jorgo, Look forward to meeting you some time.:)

The water mark subject is an interesting one.
I have found the same problems that have been mentioned above but tend to only post photos on the net that have been published already although there is always a risk of theft but thats the risk you take putting photos on the net without watermarks.
In the future I will also be putting more watermarks on photos, especially on those photos that are of desirable aircraft.
What Darren says makes a lot of sence and I should mention that I didnt really even see the watermarks on Darrens photos until the subject was mentioned as I found myself looking right through them as the photos underneath speak for themselves and will still sell to the people who like them and I wouldnt think it would detract andyone from buying a photo.

What I do know is that air 2 air photography is not always easy and weeks, sometimes months or years are spent waiting for the right time to get those photos and lots of planning goes in not to mention the costs of flying the session and when aircraft like a Spitfire is involved, it is an expensive exercise do one does need to protect images.

    Thanks for the comments.:)
I thought you guys would like to see some of the aircraft we have in NZ.
The 3/4 scale Mustang is a Titan version with a few mods to make it look more authentic.
There is more at my website link below:

    http://capphotography.fotopic.net/

Only processing I do is with photoshop 2.
I bit of contrast and sharpness and thats about it really.
Always do a bit of centering where needed and removing the odd dust spot.
I am sure there are better ways of doing things but thats all I do.
I loathe spending heaps of time editing on the computer.

I would be interested as to what other photographers do.:)

Wow! What an amazing line up of photos, beautiful back drops too, the first shot of all the Triplanes is stunning 🙂

Thanks for that. A lot of work went into getting the shot of the 7 Fokkers. It took around 30 peoples help to make it happen and is was worth it and was a lot of fun flying along side
