Good question. I am not sure which aircraft in the collection are maintained airworthy these days. I’ll see if I can find out.
This might help with the question about what flies at the CWH at Mount Hope, Ontario, Canada. I aksed Steve Tournay who lives in near-by Hamilton. He replied…
“Bobcat”? My, aren’t we the Yank today! 🙂 I’m hardly ever up at the
Hope anymore, but far as I know the flyers for ’06 are the same as last
year:Lancaster
Canso
Firefly
Harvard
Stearman
Fury (Sandy T’s, not actually a CWH aircraft)These plus perhaps the Beech 18. My understanding is that the DC-3 was
down most of last year. The Crane (Bobcat) was restored over a period
of nine years (1977-86) by Harry Smith and crew and first flew again in
fall 1986; it’s still nominally airworthy but I’m not sure how long
it’s been since it actually flew. Same general situation goes for most
of the other trainers. Far cry from the days when they had 40 airplanes
and all but the ones not completed yet were regularly flying…S.
I replied to steve…
Would you mind if I past your reply into the thread?
And Steve responded…
Wouldn’t mind at all; you can even keep in the smartass remark about being a Yank, if you like! 😉 BTW I may have forgotten one flyer, the “new” (ex-Hank Dielwart) Chipmunk may have been active last year and with 2006 being the 60th anniversary for the Chippie, I’d bet they’ll have C-FBXK on the go this year too…
Of course there’s also the Lysander, but who knows when that will fly.
S.
So it looks like the Cessna Crane is not a flyer this year. Of course the best thing to do is to send the CWH and email if you want to be sure.
Mike
Very nice, especially the one of the Cessna Bobcat at the Canadian Warplane Heritage museum – isn’t she now airworthy?
Good question. I am not sure which aircraft in the collection are maintained airworthy these days. I’ll see if I can find out.
Mike
Thats quite a body of work there-no wonder it took ten years to scan them!
You are welcome!
I liked the Swordfish at Tilsonberg. Was it one of from the Ernie Simmons cache, coming home?
I hadn’t actually thought of it that way, but yes it was. You must be referring to the Tillsonburg show in 1994. It is a good venue for a small show. Too bad they stopped having them after 1994.
BTW… If you are interested in another Ernie Simmons Swordfish picture you can find some taken at the Canada Aviation Museum starting with this one…

Since those pictures were taken both airframes have received new coats of paint. The Sabre is now in a dark green and grey camo scheme, and the CF-100 is the same paint scheme. More recent pictures of the CF-100 can be found here…

Thanks gents, and you are welcome. If you intend to travel to that area, I could send you a copy of my notes so you can more easily find the sites. Just email me at mrhenniger@hotmail.com and put something obvious in the subject line so I can fish you email out of the junk-mail folder (assuming of course you are not already on my list of contacts).
Mike
Thanks for the teasers Mike!
You are welcome.
Mike
BTW…when in the area last week, I passed by “Jet Chevrolet” in Federal Way in the south Puget Sound area, just off I-5.
They have a Czechoslovakian MiG-21 parked in their lot. Something you don’t see every day.
If you wouldn’t mind could you email me directions. I don’t know if I will be getting out that way again, but it never hurts to be prepared.
Mike
😀 Must’ve been a lovely sight seeing White 1 Me262 back up,what does she sound like?
It was a nice full roar with no shrill tones or crackling. Of couse the replicas have American engines, but it is something I am willing to overlook.
Mike
I thought it might be something like that. I don’t know different turrets well at all, but I was thinking B-25, since it does not appear very tall at all.
The thing is, they don’t have a B-24 or B-25 in their collection. They do have a B-17 and B-29.
Mike
A very interesting site thanks for sharing
You are welcome.

As for editting software I would recommend Microsofts Picture It. It is loaded with excelant basic features aimed towards editing your pictures for making prints and is relatively low cost (~$80 CDN).

Nice to see photos of airframes in places as far away from us as we are to you.
You are welcome. If you liked those you may want to go to my Webshots public community page at…
