Ahoy there DC103! Planning any work ?:D

I learnt back at Stapleford back in 1991, and my Grandfather was an AFI, and latterly (up to 2000), ground & radio instructor/examiner there. I have many happy memories of the place. Somewhere, I have an “outstanding” video of the club social club band (in which I played) known as “Fokker & the Wulfs” (c.1993) cranking out cheesy rock & roll to a very well oiled audience of club members & family.
My experience of Andrewsfield is limited to a few visits. My guess is that A/field is more like Earls Colne (where I flew 2000-03) in which case I would say I found the more relaxed and less commercial pace (as well as the quieter sky) preferable to the more insense place I found (having not visited since 2001) last summer. Mind you, I’m now flying “down on the farm” at Monewden, so much looks busy in comparison!
None of this is intended to run Stapleford down. They trained me and train alot of other people well. The fleet is big (mostly C152’s but with some 172’s and various PA28’s and PA34’s) – so plenty of availabity. I don’t know about A/fields fleet, but no doubt others can comment.
Now to see if I can find that old video and post it You-Tube…

Can anyone advise if the Rougham website represents the view of Rougham Estate /Agnews?

Sorry, forgot to say that the 777 was to/from KLA & Brisbane!
ng
Just for info, the flights were 747-400 from/to LHR and 777-200, all of which were very good, even for cattle class, which is how we went.
I would fly with this lot again, nothwithstanding the post from P.L. reporting on an engine issue with a 777 out of Sweden.
Incidentally, used Virgin Blue (737-700) twice, on different routes and Hamilton Island Aviation (Cessna Caravan Floatplane) all of which were very satisfactory.
Thanks for the earlier info.

Really useful info. Many thanks to all. The 747 out of LHR seems to be the one. There is supposed to be a stop-off in KL and then onto a different flight number from KL to Brisbane. Is it likely to be an Airbus for that part of the trip??
Does anyone have any knowledge on reserving seats, or is it first come first served?

This A/c is WD646. It was an NF11 converted to target tug “TT20” status. It was bought by a Chelmsford Scrap dealer (Hanningfield Metals) in about 1991. It was then loaned to a group (in which I was at one time fairly closley involved) called “39 Restoration Group”. They were into most things Meteor, having managed to get about 3 & 1/2 of them to North Weald, where the group was based. The a/c was dismantled in Birmingham and HGV’d to North Weald.
I packed in having anything to do with “39 RG” by about 1992 and I believe the group wound up by about 1995/6. The various a/c were dispersed and as I understand it WD646 has gone to the RAF Manston museum, where it has been, I believe resored.
Sadly I have no photos of the a/c at North Weald. Some are floating about online generally, I think. I will ask a good friend of mine if he has any snaps for posting. He is forum member, too.

My Late Grandad always said “Things only become dangerous when you become over familiar with them”,
Yes my late grandfather said similar things. He having torn the undercarriage off a Tiger Moth (HM King paying) and turned over a Beech Sundowner (Insurance paying) I guess shows that to be a pretty accurate sentiment.
On the same “you tube” website, try searching for “airliner races” and “mirage low flight” (if you haven’t already seen them) for a crazy funny cartoon and some seriously low (below lighthouse level) jet flying. Bit off thread, but I enjoyed them!

MONEWDEN – UPDATE
An application for a certificate of lawful use has been lodged with the local council to help ensure this airfields future.
Would all those who made contact (and any who didn’t) please be able to get back to me with any a/c or personal log books, ASAP? We need to have our supporting (factual) comments in by 19th April ’06. This can go back to 1973.
If any spotters saw activity during the last 30 years, again that will be useful info.
PLease feel free to post or send me a private message. I will keep you posted with any news, as and when. In the meantime, we will keep on flying.
Regards,
Neil G
I went business class with them in May 04 (Airbus) from LHR to Calgary and couldn’t fault it. Very enjoyable. Thought Canada was cracking too!
C.150’s & PA -28. (with assorted C.172, C210 and a Robin. Just pleased to get airborne really. Although I have never seen the appeal of jumping out with a parachute, for fun. (guess that is better than having to get out without one, though!) Do other GA types feel the same way?
I found wearing a subtle bright yelllow; “Work is the curse of the drinking classes” emblazoned T-Shirt proved popular at Stapleford, when I was learning about 15 years ago. Being marginally more respectable nowadays, perhaps I should have a shirt monogrammed with that slogan?
I am grateful for the comments and support. Some small amount of additional info. on movements has now been gleaned.
Whilst not to downplay the comments/history behind all of the issues (and I have no real view on the relative values of different a/c noise – SCDC’s complaint is based on intensification of use, per se), we are where we are with the prospect of enforcement action, and are thus on the Crowfield/Elmsett kind of route.
I would, personally, like to see a voluntary planning agreement, and IMO, believe that others on the concerned may do, too. It will save stacks of cash – better spent in the air.
Circuit training is already done at Beccles and voluntary noise abatement followed (or at least should be, with any sense) to try and reduce disturbance. However, crucial to the bargaining position with the Council is justifying as much flying as possible, so thats where anyone who has ever been to Mon. fits in. Please keep the info coming in.
One final point. My reference to “sparse locals” refers to the density of population and not intended to indicate few NIMBYS. Flying in the country brings another set of planning conundrums as to appropriateness. Planning, esp. airfields always brings out the big (influential) guns, whatever the issue. However, if the a/d is reduced in capacity it will, IMO, leave the a/d freeholders in the inviduous position of working out who gets to use the available slots. This will affect all users, not just HFC, as I do not believe the planning system allows particular users to be singled out, just the nature and frequency of use. In short, all users could be equally in the soup. Please help by scanning your log and a/c log books for details. A/D records may not be the greatest, so its better to risk duplication than not get in contact. Look forward to hearing.
Happy flying to all.
Neil G.
Haven’t been there for yonks, but was a very nice place. You’ll enjoy the couple of hours, and hopefully have many more lessons in future.
