Well of course not. You sell only 36 aircraft and hand away the technology. It reminds me of when the Chinese President joked to Obama about wanting to buy some F-35s. Obama asked, “how many?” Chinese President said, “Oh, just the one.”
It wasnt the Chinese President and it wasnt Obama. It was a PLAAF General and a LM official.
Once the RAF had procured 89 Hawk T1A some bright spark dreamt up the idea of a “Mixed Fighter Force” where the appropriately wired Hawk could be used as point defence fighters to support the Phantom and Tornado F.3 if WW3 started. It was only ever a concept and every trial to see if it was practical found it to be a flawed concept as the subsonic Hawk actually hindered the Supersonic Phantom and Tornado.
Fedaykin, it was more than just a “concept”, it was widely trained by the RAF sqn´s for quite some time. There´s a description of such a composite group (two Tornado´s and two Hawk´s) making life hell for the US Navy (Tomcat´s and Hornets) in one of the (excelent) video´s posted by robyoung.

A decade old article that pretty much states that SAAB is working with Selex and Thales and EADS work together in UMS… What´s next? An article from 1997 describing Korrigan?
Where they get made may vary but the actual technology is from the same place. Take ARM processors as an analogy.
No, the TRM´s used on Raven are not the same that are used on the RBE-2.
no you’re bull.
because it was tested with an aesa radar.
Nicolas was right, it was a test bed for the RBE-2 AESA, the radar was way heavier than the RDI/RDY, that brought severe fligh restrictions to that particular Mirage airframe.
The Mirage 2000 line could not be kept open because there were no orders for it, and Dassault could not maintain an upgrade path for it without a major backer.
But the TRMs are coming from the same place. All European fighter AESA TRMs are.
No.
The TRM manufacture is entirely separate from who makes the radar. It’s like Nokia, Blackberry and iPhone and who makes the actual antenna or the CPU.
Selex has its own foundry (http://sa.stat.unipd.it/files/lanzieri.pdf) and works quite a lot with RF Micro Devices(R), the TRM´s on the Raven are not the same that are used on the RBE-2, those are made by UMS. SAAB on the other hand works with Selex, severall American companies and i really dont have a clue where are they getting their GaN TRM´s but i would be very surprised if they are being made by UMS.
On the Captor E, the only public information on the subject that i am aware is that the TRM´s are being outsourced to EADS (UMS) and Selex (almost certainly their own).
It’s settled for good. Radar 2 is coming in 2021. It’s a well established fact that 1 and 1+ are GaAs and 2 is GaN. Show me a radar 3 if you believe otherwise.
There´s one single, very old, public comment made by a not nammed Selex official on a possible GAN AESA dish for CAPTOR-E, that comment was made way before today´s “Radar 1/2/3” development road was on the cards, how that turns out into “there will be a Captor E in 2021 with a Gan Antenna” is anyone´s guess.
You are turning your opinions into facts Lukos.
That makes sense. Give everyone who doesn’t want to fight a chance to leave, that way there are no excuses for those left behind.
Except, what? The fact that they are surrounded? Might have children? Old People? Wounded? Hell, the public network transportation isnt exactly up to date in Alepo…
What do you think: since 1946 which country has participated to the greatests number of wars, killed the greatests number of civilians and changed the greatest number of regimes?
a) USA, b) China (their own by the way), c) Soviet Union (the imposition of Comunist parties across the entire Eastern Europe and their “near abroad” was quite massive).
Your point being?
Russia never was brutal, in contrast to West. All WWs were started by West + Holocaust was done by the West + all most brutal ideologies were born by West. These are facts.
Interesting, you are actually mixing todays “Western” Democracies with a) the Austrian Hungarian and German empires and worse b) Nazi Germany! And that based on a very loose geographical (“The West”) notion…
And the “most brutal ideologies were born by the West”? You should really read some history books on China, India or the Midle East, like in Europe there were some pretty wild maniacs along the centuries.
Can we at least claim things like “Democracy”? Or documents like the “Déclaration des droits de l’homme et du citoyen”?
Just a minor correction: Boeing did not compete in Norway…
Eurofighter did for a while however they left the competition before the final eval because they believed the competition was unfair/biased.
Yep, you are indeed correct.
No, it’s not up to the judges. It’s up to the buyer.
Warn the USAF, Northrop and Airbus then… And DCNS didnt receive that memo either when they lost the Portuguese Navy SSK order…
You and I, we don’t have to go to court to buy a car, do we?
We just buy what we think is best suitable for us.The Dutch btw had Rand Corp involved, to make sure the acquisition was transparent and honest by analysis.
They already anticipated crap like this.
“Crap” is a very good definition for a document wich states that the entire acquisition cost for 28 F-35A´s is 2.33 Billion US$…
OH and RAND! How could i forget that company who wrote something about, what was it? Yes, something to do with “Baby Seal clubbing”?
The F-35A has a huge number of good reasons for the Danish MOD to choose it, when thrown against the SH and the Phoon its a pretty obvious choice, what drove me nuts in that doc was that they didnt need to bull****t the acquisition and suport part of the report.
So provide an example? When I asked for this same claim to be validated 4 months ago no one could provide a single credible example.
Interesting, i remember quite the oposite, severall of us stuck a bucket load of examples of cherry picking, or downright obvious mistakes by the Danish report and your answers/opinions were quite puerile.
I do remember how you´ve dismissed the fact that the Danes used the “Fly Away Unit Cost” (actually they seem to use the very best “FAUC” in the midle of the next decade) in order to calculate the acquisition costs for the F-35A (thats not disputable, its directly written in the report) and then didnt do the same for the Super Hornet. I do remember that you´ve mentioned the SH FMS deal with Australia to suport the Danish report, the obvious answer would be “then why the hell didnt they use the numbers of the three F-35A FMS deals?”. And so on, i could make with ease an entire A4 page with some very questionable assertions on that report. The thing is that it has so many holes in it, that Boeing went to the tribunals with it, something that they didnt do in Japan, Korea or Norway.
By the way, the Danish Defence Minister himself, on the last three months, after the parliament approved the acquisition of the F-35A, made two public comments that destroyed the entire report, a) that the 27 F-35A airframes wouldnt be enough to cover the Danish mission done today by two sqn´s of Vipers and b) that the budget earmarked to acquire those 27 airframes wouldnt be enough… He even tweeted the dam thing (the last one he took it out). Thats a pair of bullets right through that report.
Right now its in court, its up to the judges, interesting times ahead.
Cheers
Given that shape is the largest contributor to RCS management, designing a twin seater would not be that hard.
Its not a question of being “hard”, it would end in an almost new aircraft and it would be bloody expensive.
The main reason why almost every 4th generation has a twin seater and the 5th ones dont is because the RCS management would have gone T***s up in these last ones.
A fourth generation twin seater is a fully combat capable aircraft, wich by the way also acts has a very high end trainer, you cant do that with a fifth generation fighter because sticking another hole in the airframe would throw the entire RCS LO equation to Ouagadougou. Top that with the reasons that Spud have already listed and “presto”, no twin stickers for Raptors, Pak´s, etc.
Boeing goes to the Tribunals in Denmark, i wouldnt be surprised if EADS do the same.
