One question I have for the technically more informed, new wing design, why no ‘winglets’ ?
Winglets that are massive and near vertical (737 / 767) are additions to an old design wing. When you design the wing from scratch, the whole Wing can be designed to facilitate the spanwise airflow required to remove the need for a Blended Winglet as per the older Boeings. If you look closely, it actually has a winglet, but it is so gentle a curve it hardly shows. Dreamliner and NightmareLiner (A350) has the same type of integral winglet. And, knowing Boeing and APB, that wing will work!
As for “Plenty of room for A380 and 747-8”.
Yes, except that the Boeing is cheaper. About $60M per platform cheaper. Same range, same speed but it loses about 60 seats. The A380 can of course hold up to 850 passengers, has anybody actually done that yet? 565ish seems to be the common configuration as far as I’ve read. I sit to be corrected on that.
Imagine 850 pairs of sweaty feet on a long haul! It will smell like a maggot factory….and of course no room for the lounges etc.
Nope, A380 sales were looking a bit grim, this wonderful Boeing is the Sword of Damocles over it’s head.
My earliest memory of history was of some character called Kentish Man. Must have been a long time ago.

We are top of the Food chain.
We are the superior mind on the Planet.
We grow and eat animals because we need to. We are indeed a parasite on everything, because we are the chosen rulers of this planet. WE take what we need. With our large brain, we apply responsibility to that too.
Live with it.
If tyranical mistakes are made by some, what goes round comes round. We kill them. Seemples.

I think he meant “I read” (Sound like Red), not an instruction.
Well, not unlike the Chinese to copy something is it!
Interesting that the yanks dropped the research because it couldn’t be made into a Bomb.
I hope they succeed, they are certainly going to need a whole-bunch-of-power over there.

But the media thing goes both ways, and I’m sure ‘Tele Libya’ or ‘The Tripoli Daily News’ or whatever they call themselves, have thair own set of statistics and government claims. We can only speculate ref the percentage of Libyans that have access to any other media, I would be genuinely interested to know. I totally appreciate the fact that you have been there, and yes of course you can only base your opinion on talking to the locals, I am not disputing that for a moment. Back in the mid 80’s, I attended the training ‘schools’ of two east european airlines, with a view to being trained in the load control and handling of the types operated by them, and then instructing our staff back home. Obviously, there was time for socialising, and at each of the airlines, the instructors and fellow trainees were great guys, and a few good nights out were had. I can only remember one guy in Berlin who ever mentioned anything to do with politics, the subject was avoided like the plague by the others. Were the instructors part of the ‘Party faithful”? you bet, and I’m sure that you will have dealt with, and been monitored by, cadres of the Jamahiriya many times during your visit(s). And I have no doubt, that the StB and MfS monitored mine. It is the nature of the beast.
There was only one Hotel with Internet, “The International” in Tripoli. So it was obviously net-bugged. Who wouldn’t!
We used Sat. phones for anything other than works trivia, which we used Email for.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for total Western command of the Middle East but I still think the protestors in Libya are in the minority, and again, much as I approve of the use of Military Force whenever possible (I need the sales!), I think this time, just because Res. 1973 has been passed, we’ve gone in too quick without the full story. In Iraq and Afghan, we didn’t go in quick enough or hard enough, so my opinion in this case is sort of the opposite of my usual.
And, I have no pals or peers over there, couldn’t care less about the people I dealt with.
Apart from the past fortnight of shelling, is there actually any evidence of the Col. brutalising the people?

[Boring memory mode on] Dewering the war……..
I was at Ringway when the first BOAC 747 landed. I was half way up the scafolding light tower at the end of the International Pier, where it parked. I have loved the machine ever since.
I took pictures with a Grey Kodak “Thing” which took 126 film. The shutter button was white plastic and I think it travelled about 1/2 an inch down LoL. Gawd knows where the pictures are now.
History as taught in school is only history as approved by the government of the day. For true history you have to work outside the education system and either do the research for yourself or read the works of those who have.
This is so true. But, you don’t tend to read around the subject until A level or degree. Or even later in life when something interests you.
In a sort of similar way, my Economics lecturer (Paper marker too) was a total Commy. So, to ensure good marks, we swung left for the answers, having of course discussed both sides. This happens in history too. We hear of the Nazi treatment of the Russians for example, we were not told at School about the reverse of that, when Russia stormed into Germany near the end of WW2 and killed/raped/razed/stole everything in their path. They were on our side of course, so it didn’t really happen.

At least the Police still insist that these Uni. hot-housed dimwits have to spend 2 years asa Woodentop before they go shining their pants in the office.
Far too many Uni., types walk into jobs which require 5 years OTJ experience. Not just for knowledge, but for respect.
I interview staff, quals. don’t interest me. Presence, a thinker, ABSOLUTELY no bulls***…for example “I’ve no idea” is the best answer to a question for which they have no idea. I also look for the personality – will they fit in my team, will they one day lead my team. I also note shoes. Old hat some of you say, but if a lad or a lass can’t be arsed to clean their shoes for a job interview, it shows to me that they have a lack of respect and discipline. And I’m not usually wrong. I also use my 6th sense – something I’d trust my life with. Putting that in words on paper is hard, I just tell HR “I really didn’t like him”.
As for History, yes, the context is lost. My nipper has been taught 4,000 years of stuff in a couple of years. It’s all sank in according to the SATS (Crap) but it’s mixed up. Walking around a V2 rocket factory last year, he couldn’t grasp the fact the photographs of the Jews were actually some of the 6M that they were told about in one line of the WW2 lesson somewhere.

We’ve been made that way though.
Granted, there have been, are and will be some total abominations of “Being in charge”
