Shame they made so few episodes, but I found Foyle’s War one of the most entertaining shows for decades…

    Yep. I enjoyed that too.
With a bonus for me as I salivated at the young lass that was his driver. Hot posh totty!

That whole continent is a mess.
They could be the next China if they could actually be bothered to sort out real issues.

    I agree.
Hurt Locker was a 10 minute news item padded out to a movie. It was such a bore I did a few Sudoko whilst it was on.
Green Zone is a far better film. Stars the incredibly talented Matt Damon, and Directed by Paul Greengrass (Producer of World in Action back in the day and the Director of the last 2 Bourne Films, amongst other stuff).
Modern war films…I know what you are saying but you need (Presuming you haven’t) to see Das Boot (German version with subtitles NOT the dubbed version). Band of Brothers and Pacific (OK, not really films), Black Hawk down. Yes, a lot of swearing though.
What made the old War films so great was the fact that most of the actors had actually been there in real life. A group of extras, for example had probably done Nat. Service and thus could march, could look smart for the part etc. It’s little things like that which make a lot of difference in my opinion.
Another “Modern” problem in things like period drama’s, we no longer have plenty of ecentric very posh people to play the parts of same in the Victorian/Edwardian stuff. There is an element of class and panache missing.
A possible exception to this (OK the setting was 1930’s) was Jeeves and Wooster played by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, and all the supporting cast. Obviously the books by PG Wodehouse are unbeatable scripts but the whole cast played fabulous gentlemans club/public school/ landed gentry roles. If you didn’t catch these in the early 90’s then borrow the DVD’s.

    Clearly touched a nerve :diablo:

Can I question the copy cat bit as I fail to connect another comedian who’s style or material that he copies off.

Material….I’ve heard all of it before. He tells a posh version of a great deal of Billy Connely stuff, he’s even nicked some of Victoria Woods baselines.
Style. Posh comics in a suit? C’mon, lots and lots. Even Julian Clary (Not mentioned on here so far, yet a superb comic)
And Eddie Izzard, well sometimes in a suit and sometimes as a woman…but again not mentioned here and a master of the art. I can never stop laughing at “Star Wars Canteen”….especially the Lego version of it on YouTube.

….and don’t forget good comic but better writer…..Ben Elton. And Alexie Sayle for that matter.

As Harold Steptoe used to say to his father…”You dirty old man”. 😀

    Lincoln. 7
    :diablo:

I was watching that the other night! When they divided the room up with a partition wall, telly 50% in each side. Arguing over which ch to watch.

[Harold Albert Kitchener Steptoe] I have my rights on my side!
[Albert Edward Ladysmith Steptoe]…..But I’ve got the nobs on my side!

I couldn’t resist using their full names….I’m in QI mode LoL.

The company I work for uses the cheapest possible flights available. And as I’m not at the “Top table” I have to go Economy, even on long haul.
One flight last year, 2 top neddies in first class, 4 “Next levels” in Business and 4 or 5 of us in scumbag class. Same flight! And the longer trousers kept coming out to see how the work was going!
Just another reason why I hate the place.

I’ve suffered all the tosh airlines, Ryan is, by a looooooooooooooooooooooong margin at the bottom. Easy Jet was all acceptable and pleasant. FlyBe is my favourite cheapo – it’s all no nonsense, cheap coffee etc. but the Dinner ladies remain 100% polite, there is legroom (On Dash 8 and Embraer) and the cabin was clean.

So, the Murder of an 8 month pregnant girl in Wales.

Her killer has rights until the verdict…..but should he/she/they be allowed to be a part of our society (And that includes in a Cell)?
Even the Pope or the Arch. of Cant. would tie the knot in the hanging Rope for this sort.

    ….Hang on, Pope, Nazi…. GODWIN!
