Shuttleworth is on your route… if the other half isn’t into aircraft I think the ticket also still gets you into Swiss too

Shame about the weather today! So went and played with Shuttleworth’s new toy.
Dave
is that the Kirby Kite I herd rumours about?
raining here already…. just a another mono wing go over on the same OW/Halton heading.
For the last 90 minutes we have a steady stream of aircraft over the village (Barton in the Clay) with a nice pair moths being last a few minutes ago.
Sadly working this weekend but Halton sounds like the place to be 🙂
been a little busy with other work lately and this project has ended up being sidelined for a while.. last few weeks though I have got a bit more done and the drafts for the first kit are done.
The first kit will be the Manuel Primary, its in 1/4 scale. The plans pack is fairly comprehensive with a total of 8 A0 sheets… lol YES 8 (no skimping or cutting corners here!). At the minute the plans pack is expected to sell for £35 which I realise is more than most plans but this pack has 2 sets of plans (one in draft to build on and one in more detail as a reference.. so no ruining your plans or copying needed!).
I am going to do 25 sets of plans as a limited edition, these are all serial numbered and will come with some special decals… also included in the cost is 2 £5 donations to linked aviation charities or good causes related to project.
Lastly the plans packs are a non profit exercise, the small profit in the pack I make will be used to buy extra plan packs which will be donated to local schools and clubs to help cement local interest our our villages history.
I’m talking with a well known cnc cutting company to produce a full balsa/ply kit later in the year too.
If this all goes well then the project should be expended later in the year with a current list of over 10 new plans being commissioned.
from the BBMF website…
Weather and aircraft serviceability permitting, we will be leaving our hold at Newmarket and flying over; Sudbury, Halstead, Braintree, Chelmsford, Brentwood then into Central London to join with the Typhoon and GR4 for the flypast over Buckingham Palace.
yes your on the right track, one thing that you may also want to confirm is if the cockpit is personally owned you or belongs to an ‘entity’…
so if its your own cockpit, your own vehicle and your licence is correct and the weights are ok then you should have no issues….
however if its somebody else’s tow car or trailer, or cockpit then regardless of licences or weights you have a different rules. If for instance the cockpit is owned by an aviation group (registered charity or business status) then you cannot claim its personal use, you also need to be aware that the insurance for towing use (private policies wont cover commercial towing use) has to specifically cover ‘hire and reward’ too, some private use policies wont cover you for commercial use either!
The problems started when manufactures started tip over the established 3495kg max vehicle weight with all the big SUV, 4×4 and small vans. Under EEC law these are in reality LGV’s by weigh although the use can still be personal, to add insult to injury the automotive manufactures have walked away from the responsibility of making these vehicles legally compliant, for a large proportion you can not get a tacho for them!
If your in doubt when stopped…
be sure you have the correct licence category
be sure your tow vehicle has the correct towing capacity
be sure your trailer is not overloaded
be sure you are moving a personal item (with equipment you own if possible)
be sure your insurance covers trailer use
if your tow vehicle is a company car be prepared to demonstrate that there is no business use (especially if your 50kms or more from the registered keepers address)… especially if your using a van!
Lastly VOSA excepts this has become a minefield and from the people I have spoken with the inspectors are not looking to catch people out just catch those trying to get round the law!… even VOSA gets it wrong and were in court a while back for using an illegal trailer for transporting a seized vehicle to their storage compound :D:D:D:D
many thanks for all the support… a pic of some of the progress!
still work on all the models to do but its getting there.

a larger pic of the models can be seen here, so far the detailing is as good as the research can give me.
(note all 3 are not finished, Buzzard need the fuselage bullheads doing right and the wings finished, Primary need the main wing and rigging, Wren needs the wing finishing and rigging done.)
Hello Agent K.. progress seems to be going backward as my list looks likes its grown in the last few weeks with a few extra models being looked into 🙂
I know Henlow well, my family was connected to the ATC there a long time ago.
Hi everyone.
Not a problem T-21, Banupa, we had a really great turnout so much so we had shift some of the library shelves to get people in which cant be bad.
Plans are for a follow on in July which will be on a weekend afternoon and that will coincide with an airfield walk either shortly before or after…. hopefully we may have a very splendid new location too. We hope to widen the presentation up a little with a lot more technical information and even go a little interactive!
If you want to read more on the progress of the presentation then the link below will help.

I cant thank every one enough for the help in this thread, its been instrumental in getting us as far as we have.
I have some new information on the airfield, and I can confirm some dates so expect a few new posts in the next day or so.
I have also just added a post in the models section of the forum that may interest anyone that likes 1/4 scale modelling.

just a quick reminder, anyone in the local area that’s interested there is going to be a presentation in the village library about the aerodrome this Tuesday…
1st March, 2.30pm, Barton le clay library.
more information will be posted on the village community website, we are also looking at the possibility of sound recording/videoing so that the presentation can be archived and pod-cast from the community website in the near future.
Barton-Le-Clay Community website can be found here or click the signature link.
lmao you cant miss the big white furry mutts.
I’ve never been convinced that Luton aircraft were in the nursery in Hollybush Lane, the owners know nowt about it (either aircraft or wartime engineering!) so I was doing some digging and Hawkridge Aircraft seam to pop into the research with to many coincidences.
They had a postal address in Dunstable (just like Luton Aircraft had) they were in Oxford Road Denham (just like Luton Aircraft had been) and they seem to have been doing the work that Luton Aircraft had in that area just a couple of years after the business stopped.
what’s more the address on Oxford Road WAS a nursery!… so could people be getting this confused with the one in Hollybush Lane round the corner?
The site is now under a garden centre so nothing left on the ground.
lol was that you on the roof the other afternoon by chance!
ok i’m looking into another lead and could with help with any information on:
Mr. H.E. Bolton
Hawkridge Aircraft Company Ltd
many thanks
that’s a shame ds but depending on local interest the whole project may move forward, so there may be a follow up.
I’m keen to get the airfield to become a continuous project for the village, maybe even kick off a historical group to document things before they disappear under yet more houses!
I’m also looking at:
running a schools project to build/show models, pictures etc of the aircraft designed/built here.
a one off large scale accurate model of the Buzzard, we have several model aircraft clubs to get it in the air (my be from the original airfield).
re-opening the airstrip for one day as a fly-in, you could still get 650mts on stubble with a little organising!
