It happens on other Forums!!! Just remember –Some people are so far up their own Backsides, that , they are going to end up wearing themselves as a Top Hat!!
NOBODY STAYS ON MY TAIL—UNLESS I WANT THEM THERE !!!!
Scrap at Cosford
In reply to the small amount of scrap found at RAF Cosford. I remember as a small child , I used to go exploring around the lanes near Cosford , My father was a civilian instructor there & we lived in the next village of Albrighton. On the far side of the airfield ( otherside from controll tower) is the Old Worcester Rd. Entrance/Crash gate.On the lefthand side of the Gate was a large concrete hardstanding. On here were disposable Aircraft piled high & scattered all over this area. This would be 1951-2 & I would be 6-7 years old. My mind may play tricks now ,but I believe they were mainly Tempests, Typhoons ,Spits & Hurricanes. My mates & I used to sneak in and play on them.Usually to be told to B—-er off By the Minestry Police or by a couple of blokes with an old Austin/Bedford lorry. We were told it was private & dangerous, & threats to tell our Dads.Come to think of it the lorry seemed equipped with Oxy Cutting gear. If there were any fumes left in those tanks , I think it was the scrap men in danger not us kids.Anybodyelse remember Cosford 1950–58???;)
Pity I. K. Brunel is’nt still around. The Vulcan would have been flying 5 yrs ago, along with a gaggle of Javelins ,a Shack & a couple of Gannets. As the Duke! once said Fingers out!……….Another summer is nearly over…….People are going to start losing interest!!
Well thought out & nicely written, Thanks for that Kev… There are people I need to remember………………..

Wolves Airprt!!
I have posted elsewere about my childhood at Raf Cosford. After dad left the RAF we also went to Live in Wolverhampton. My School backed onto the old original Woverhampton Airport at Pendeford. I remember watching the 2 Dakotas owned by Don Everall Avition & a DH Dragon Rapide. There was also some private flying , The occassional Vickers Viking & when they made the film”The Man In The Sky” with Jack Hawkings we used to get a couple of Bristol Frieghters.Turner sports cars also had a facility on the Airport. In later years , after flying had finished , I got a job in one of the Hangars that had been turned into a Cash & Carry Wharehouse. Boulton Paul also used the airport for flight testing Various aircraft. Many years ago , I drove passed the sight, only to find it was now a large housing etate complete with School & supermarket.Hence we have Halfpenny Green —Miles away from Wolverhampton!!!:(
Early Years!
Spent my Childhood years on ,& around RAF Cosford, where my father was a Sgt.Tech Instuctor. This as after WW2 where he had spent time as Sgt Ground crew with 625 Sqn (Lancasters) at Raf Kelstern Lincolnshire. He later went back to Civilian Instructor at Cosford & later on to School Teaching. Later he was commisioned in the RAF VR/T as F/O.& spent some years as 2 I/c 2224 Albrighton Sqn ATC. I remember me & most of my friends had the run of the airbase (About 1953-59) Security was quite lax as WW2 was over & the Cold War had not yet become a big issue.I joined the Air Cubs, used the swimming baths, Astra cinema, Camp & Air field (When no one was looking)…..Will post more later…….;)
