Hi all
My wifes Grandad grew up in Spalding during the war. He lived on Cradge bank so I asked him if he knew about a Mustang crash. As far as he remembers the only aircraft to crash on the Cradge was a pair of Lancasters. He remembers an Airspeed Oxford on Andrews farm and a Fortress in Burr lane. There was a Turbinlite Havoc along the railway line towards deeping but as he said it was a long time ago.

I had a wander around North Witham a while ago and had, what I think were, rally cars for company. I also seem to remember a Karting track at Kimbolton airfield.

Hi all
After reading another thread about the East Kirkby Dakota I dont know which one I saw on Sunday.

Should have taken more notice but was just enjoying the sight 😮
Andy

Thanks for the replies everyone. Has anyone got a photo of one conected to a fire extinguisher ? Also is there only one or would they have been several around the aircraft ?
Andy
Hi Peter & Alan
I thought it may have been something to do with the oxygen equipment as it seems to be made of brass and some of the other oxygen vaves I have seen are brass.
It was found in the early Eighties with some other Lancaster parts in Norfolk and it seems to have that aircraft “feel” to it.
Andy
I dont know what the weather was like on your visit but this is a photo I took at 10.45 on Rememberance Sunday.

Hi REF
Where is the memorial on Salthouse heath ? I have seen the base of the Radar mast with the Poppies on it for the crew of LM 720. Is that the one ?
Thanks
Andy
Some more photos from a wet Monday:)
Hi all
One source of information I am trying at the moment is the Civil defence records for Norfolk. I have e mailed the Norfolk County Council and it seems there was a diary kept so I will be going along to have a look.
I well let you know if it is of any use for crash research.
Andy
I had the same problem with another 61 Squadron Lancaster LM 720. There was no record of her code letter in any of the books nor in 61 Squadrons ORB at Kew. I decided while I was at Kew to have a look at the combat records for that period and there it was QR-D. It gave Serial number,Code letter, Pilot and name of the gunner. It may be worth a try.

Hi all
I have in my collection a video of the Airforce Recovery Unit about the recovery of aircraft from the Zuider zee. It was made some time ago as a veteran was taken back to his crashed aircraft, IIRC, a Hillman Avenger. It was narrated by Leo McKern and shows the lengths these men went to to recover the aircraft and, more importantly, the crew. On one recovery they even had to build a road out to a crash site. Well worth getting if it is still available.

There is a cockpit section at Brooklands in (I think) a wind tunnel. I’ve a photo somewhere.

Hi Elliot
I’ve heard about a Lancaster to the East of Peterborough and a Mustang at Werrington but never a hampden.
Any Hampden experts out there that could help ?
Andy
Thanks for the replies
A Hampden control rod. Now I look at it it does resemble a large version of what you see on a car carb. I found it just outside Peterborough along with the other part (Which had a rubber end on it) while looking for Roman coins.
Did many Hampdens come down in that area ?
