I must confess that I feel concerned that the jigs have been obtained by an organisation who, whatever their good intentions, lack the experience of putting together a set of airworthy Mosquito wings. A Mossie wing a pile of wood does not necessarily make. Without the experience of those who have been there and done it before it remains just that, a jig and a pile of wood. These things do not miraculously assemble themselves. The involvement of Guy Black, who by the way I have the ultimate respect for having achieved what he has over the years, does not guarantee success. At best Guy’s team will have to re-learn the wheel having never rebuilt a Mossie before, and that research and learning process costs money. A lot of money.
I’m also a little concerned that TMP will by way of their own requirements have a partisan agenda when it comes to the use of the jigs. Previously they were in effect available to anyone with the required cubic $ to pay for a set of wings, and that (will shortly have) served well in getting three Mossies back in the air that would otherwise not be there.
I hope that I am proved wrong, indeed I would love to be proved wrong, but I cannot but feel that this actually, in reality, represents a retrograde step in seeing other Mossies (not just in the UK) take to the air again.
Off hand I cannot recall. However, it may be worth consulting AC43
So with Aerowood winding down is it the intention for TPM to establish a facility of their own in NZ to manufacture the wings for their aeroplane or import the jigs to the UK? Having the jigs (anywhere) is a big bonus, but as I recall what made the wing build viable was the ability to CNC route the frames and components to exceptional accuracy. Presumably these routers and more importantly the associated coding will be vital to the wing build effort. However, again, ownership is one part of the equation. The expertise to actually put a wing together from newly manufactured kit is vital. With Aerowood running down is that expertise going to follow along with the equipment, or will it have to be developed anew?
The worrying thing is that with ownership of the jig and any associated programming and tooling comes with it significant responsibility. There exist additional kits of metal parts out there which could be put back together with the right backer. While TPMs acquisition of this wing jig is an interesting development I hope that it does not become, even if by way of the law of unintended consequences, an impediment to others putting together further airframes. What safeguards are being put in place to ensure that such a situation is not allowed to arise should TPM for whatever reason not move forward?
Pretty fundamental to democracy that the judiciary can overrule the government. God help all of us the day they can no longer do so……
Something else to add to the pile of bits we’re looking for I’m afraid, 2BA Oddie Nut Plates. We need about 60 of them. Please, if you have some please drop me a message. Thank you
Thank you, I’ll give them a try.
Here’s a photo of (almost!) the type of Jet Provost static vent port we’re looking for. The one in the photo is for a JP5/Strikemaster and has a two hole per plate arrangement and unfortunately can’t be used. The type we need is the earlier version, for the JP3 (and possibly 4, not sure about that) and has a single hole per plate. We need two of these plates – does anyone have some or know of a derelict JP from which a pair could be recovered? Thank you.

Hi, in need of a couple of Smiths Mk IV RPM gauges, reference 6A/1299. Fairly standard item. Anyone have any spare? Thanks

Yes Cees, it’s already been sold. Thanks for the heads up by the way!:eagerness:
Well yes, although the “authorities” at the moment are running around with their heads firmly stuck up their rectal passages. However that doesn’t mean to say that it’s either: a/ a good thing and necessary, b/ would have happened if the whole debacle hadn’t reared its ugly head in the first place or c/ the fault of the operators concerned. As I say, law of unintended consequences.
Depending upon how the Brexit debacle plays out, post event “quick flips” across the channel (in either direction) may become much more difficult and onerous to organise if one has to organise temporary import licences, VAT exemption paperwork etc. It may simply not be worth it. The law of unintended consequence maybe, but a potential consequence none the less.
And after a couple of Avimo (I believe) static plates for a Provost or JP3 (JP5 and Strikey had different plates – not sure about JP4). I think the number is 6A/1044108 or some derivation thereof. Hopefully a photo should appear…….
Again, there are probably bucket loads of these out there, somewhere……Thank you
Seeking an old style 10B/16779 whip aerial as used on Vampires, Meteors etc. Pretty standard for RAF types of the time, there should be buckets of them kicking around somewhere. Looking for the complete units, or just the antenna part itself as I have a few bases already (hopefully the photos have uploaded)
Thank you
Jet Provost Parts
Hi, we urgently need a set of Jet Provost static vents, one situated each side of the rear fuselage ahead of the fin. Does anyone have a set, or access to any of the derelict JP airframes around the UK which may yield the parts? Any help very much appreciated. Many thanks
Anyone have details for Dunlop AHM brake drums?
