Vampire Parts
Hi,
After a few parts for a single seater project. If anyone has or knows of the following please shout:
Pair of bullet fairings for the tailbooms where the verticals and horizontal join (not a T.11 part)
Pair of drop tanks (ideally RAF type but Swiss also welcome)
Upper nose section for normal RAF (non Swiss) style of nose
Many thanks
T.3?
From a practicality and aesthetics point of view would not a T.3 be the ideal compromise (rebuildable chunks allowing)? This combines the classic Mosquito form allied with the ability to conduct dual continuation training and conversions onto type would provide the best of both worlds.
That said, any Mosquito would be welcome and I wish them every success.
John Lilley
I had the opportunity to meet John when he was back from China a few months ago. From what he ws saying he was involved in working on aircraft at Duxford (incuding their Mosquito I believe) and he looked after some websites for other people. Not sure any physical “hands on” involvement beyond that, but I may be wrong.
Mk 1 yes
The original panels being done are for a 9, but I’d like to build up a contrasting set (just for display at home) for an F1, hence the need for a compass.
We have all the throttle end parts (I think) for the elevator trim gauge, but do need the parts which mount on the panel. Also need the Bowden cable.
Thanks
Epoxy
I have seen two part epoxy resin used for this in the past – built up rough to the required depth, a small file used for obtaining the surface finish required and then finished off with a suitable paint.
Scott Tailwheel
Interesting. Any idea where I can obtain details of the Scott tailwheel conversion?
Thanks
Scottish Chipmunk
I’m afraid I don’t have any details on this Tony. Does anyone have any contact details?
Chippie
Thanks 8674 and Terry. I have been in contact with an few operators and put the word out, but there’s such an amazing amount of bits and pieces out there sitting unused on shelves and in sheds that I thought it worth asking here.
Thank you for the manual pages. They are very useful.
On the subject……
While on the subject of odd old tyres, I was recently asked to track down a tyre to fit a 2 inch diameter tailwheel. Width across the tailwheel is also 2 inches, and the tyre itself must have maximum diameter of 7 inches. Odd sizes I know, but that’s what will fit.
If anyone has a garage full of really odd old tyres, perhaps you could grab a tape measure?!
Sabre
The condition of course would only come into play assuming it was surveyed prior to purchase. They may have purchased sight unseen, and then cursed their luck when they opened the container! I guess we will never know, however, it’s within a working life so there will be someone out there with inside knowledge. I bet drone programme anecdotes would make a good book in its own right.
Sabre
ps, it would be great to see a copy of the O’Leary photo of the old bird at Mojave if anyone is able to post it.
Sabres
David, I do understand the amounts of money involved, and am indeed aware that Sabres were grabbed from wherever they could find them. I am certainly not naive to the value of funds involved in aviation, particularly government sponsored programmes.
However, given the number of Sabres left around the globe, both Canadair and NA, particularly on the North American continent, they passed over a great number of more suitable airframes, both in terms of condition and to proximity to Mojave, yet scraped the bottom of the condition barrel in obtaining this airframe. Having seen its condition I just find that a little odd, that’s all.
Brakes
Are you looking for the early brakes or the later type? We have later style brake parts (for the T11) but are after parts for the early style as used on the RAF single seaters.
What type are yours Stan? If they have one set of shoes rather than two smaller sets per wheel then they are single seater and if no good elsewhere I would be interested.

A matter of perspective
These projects are private endeavours, in the same way as one’s financial dealings, marital stability, family dynamics and sex life.
Before those with loose tongues sit down in a public forum and discuss other people’s private rebuild projects (remember, it’s an open public forum, not a cosy chat with mates around a pint of beer – the consequences of some seemingly throw-away comment may go further than you think) perhaps they should first consider how they would feel if the state of their marriage or the health of their bank account was similarly discussed openly in public by others. Just because technologically you can post comments or questions about an individual’s private business does not mean that you should.
