Anywya, so there I was, feeling all privileged and gooey, as the engines opened up, the grass lies flat, and I nearly got blown over. It’s drizzling, it’s windy, and it’s dull and freezing. LOVELY!
I remember now. He just taxed it about didn’t he? Talk about showing off! hehehe

Sorry AT6 but the markings might be 100% but the paint isn’t. If it was painted then it would have been matt paint not gloss. Also all other P-51’s still have the aerial post fitted and they are not natural wood, neither were they on wartime P-51’s.
I have seen quite a few with wooden arials, so it’s not just Janie, and in my opinion, the black ones look worse. And my dad agree, hence the wood exposed. And what would the oclour of the arial be on your P-51?!?!?!
And when the airframe was in NZ after the war, the fusealage was painted silver. Fact.

Hate to sink your boat but she was all silver paint. Not polished.
sorry got to correct myself, she was painted silver after the war. my apologise. But still a 100% authentic paint scheme. CAA won’t allow anything else.

The fuselages on wartime P-51’s were originally left unpainted, TFC’s Twilight Tear is 100% original in regards to the finish. Only the wings and the tailplane were painted. I have never seen a wooden aerial on any P-51 other than Janie.
Hate to sink your boat but she was all silver paint. Not polished.
And the arial, you will only have seen one on Janie, because she is the only 100% authentic P-51 in Europe. All other have taken the off because they have ariails either in front of the cockpit, or under the right wing tip. But as Janie is original stock mustang my dad put it on. And i think Jumping Jacques may ahve one soon.

AT6, Yeh, I know you’re Harvard, Isa a lovley machine. I’ve got some nice foto’s I took at the Havard 50th bash at North Weald about 5 years ago, I’ll dig them out and try to post them here.Steve.
That would be great, i love to see any pics of her.
David Burke– I have heard that said about an Auster before… don’t know how much i am looking forward to flying it though. I just think the Austers with the Gipsy engines are very ugly. We just put silencers on ours, and it looks like it has two rockets hanging under it now!
PeeBee– you obviously have good taste 😀 hehehe
Black Knight– polished silver is horrible, looks very tacky and very cheap. The colour scheme is 100% original and it wasn’t polished silver, it was painted silver. And even if we had wanted polished silver, the CAA wouldn’t have allowed it without putting the registration on the side of the plane. And the ‘stupid’ wooden arial? You obviously don’t like authenticity then do you??? Becuase if they hadn’t of had them duiring the war they wouldn’t of had radio… not so stupid is it???
Blue Leader– yep was indeed woodchurch this year. The Harvard I will be flying is the light blue with red and white checkered cowling.
You have good taste in warbirds! P-51’s and T6’s you get my vote! hehe.
I also have to say i quite like the old Hurricane, lovely looking plane. Give me that over a spitfire anyday.

oh, and you know it’s not Candyman/Moose anymore don’t you????
Best Aircraft has to be the AT6 Harvard/Texan/SNJ. It’s a very sexy plane. It’s doesn’t rip through the air like a P-51, it flies with eligance and grace, something a lot of planes lack.
Yak 11 Fan–, i think you have P-51 oil on the brain instead of water! hehehe, but you are right, Janie is the best P-51 in Europe, and that’s not by being biased, i have heard it first hand by over 30 people. Having won best warbird at show in Le Touquet (sp?) I think that proves part of my point.
Digby– A scrapyard? maybe you shuodl look in the fighter collections hangars first before you say that about those P-51’s huh?
Candyman/Moose? What is so great about it? Looks tacky and have you even seen Janie up close or even in the cockpit? Because if you haven’t, you really should, you’ll learn a lot.
Snapper–, you saw the engine runs? I dont’ remember you being there….
David Burke–, Austers? We have an Auster V (lycombing, not horrible gypsy) and i can’t stand it! and i have to do a tail wheel converstion on it ARGH!!! hehe, heel brakes! argh!! But i guess i’ll get used to it eventually!!
