Oh, my…
TWO J-20 prototypes with SAME 2001 serial number taxiing around CAC field at SAME time. 😮
Check out it, both birds board number is 2001 but engines or nozzles are different!!!

1) is it me or are those LEX may be movable?
2) my gut tells me this thing may already have had its first flight…
They ususally don’t risk it infront of the VIPs and do a informal one first.
wild guesses!
According to the “live” reporting guy, the first test flight is going to be taken tomorrow
yeah.
those guys didn’t put on power ranger suits for nothing…
Looks like Bill S. is a visitor to this forum. :p
Hi Bill.
I should do a disclaimer:
all the picture in that post was from
fyjs.cn/bbs
fyjs.cn is a big and pretty good (if you know what you are looking for) forum site in Chinese Political/Military Forum blogsphere.
supposily they have a “live” reporting guy (fyjs military intelligence) stationed at the airfield and reporting back with text message. 😎
Must agree this is an interesting feature, but i doubt it will be actually diverterless, it will , most likely need bleeding and diverters, because the thing will move, and if it moves , it will need a pressure/flow regulation system, just because the cone has a exotic shape does not mean is diverterless.
If that is big IF they use a variable DSI, then…
go look at any of these clean frontal shots and tell me were the diverter is? it is clearly a DSI design.
a moving “bump” doesn’t mean you necessarily need a diverter. if the mach scheduled moving “bump” does the job of moving the boundary layer away and still has good pressure recorvery and alpha/beta sensitivies then why would it need a diverter?
It looks like one was fit with WS-10 series engines and one was fit with Al-31 series engine. The shinier one is the WS-10
ya’ll know that china has a license for D-30 right ? not the F but one of the K series, for re-engine its H-6 fleet and…
More pics
The wing looks undersized and look at that washout on the wing!
also notice the LEX on the main wing.
😎
My prediction coming more and more true!
I will not very surprised if they have this first flight on national television live. 😎
the 737 landing is from 34th Air Division, airforce, military and civilian VIP transport duty,
Enjoy
…
p.s.
the guys are calling it the “Star Destroyer”, now the uniform finally matches. hurrah!
well,
they have set up the port-a-potties, roll out the red carpet, and first flight guys have some weird uniform on that comes straight out of a sci-fi film.
First Flight tomorrow. 😎
I see it similar. Without a capable domestic engine it is a technology demonstrator at first.
How do you know?
How do you they will not have a capable domestic engine?
to give a perspective.
WS-10A is not that far off from 117S may be supposedly in same category? . supposedly 117S powers the initial flight tests on PAK-FA. (donno, anyone correct me?), btw, if you don;t care about engine life you can always put into what some manufacture called “ubermode”… to support some flight test.
WS-10A supposedly already flies on J-11B that they make like sausage overthere in Shengyang.
The last time China ordered AL-31 variant en-mass, does the number support the production and entry to service rates of J-11/J-10?
WS-15 started program much early than J-20’s official launch.
,,,,,,,,,
in other news tonight…
CCTV news channel just did a piece on J-20 at 10:30 local time.
🙂
Actually 256 kbps, and the the new version 1,2 Mbps by compression.
good stuff. my memory is giving away.
I don’t see why new technology wouldn’t be able to do more in the short future. :diablo:
Now now. You know as well as anyone that compromises can be biased in one direction or another.
Of the 4 VLO fighters/prototypes in existence, I think we could agree the F-22 is most biased towards a fighter, the J-20 most biased towards a bomber/interceptor and the PAK-FA somewhere in between (although leaning more towards fighter than bomber).
The F-35? Well… compared to the other 3 I think its just too small and powderpuff to be effective.
I still doubt J-20 is biased towards as a bomber/interceptor.
if they wanted a mig-31/F111. it is easiler just to put in a compound delta.
To me, over engineering is putting features on a system of which are not used in operations. Back in the 1950s to 1970s the term most often used is “gold plating.” Some people considered the F-86’s ranging system as gold plated. The F-14’s swing wings, the F-15’s radar system as the systems were being designed. In operations and and in combat these systems proved to be essential.
Yes I get tired of people such as Tom Christie, Pierre Sprey, Col. Everest Riccioni and, Harry Hillaker criticizing the F-4 for its dogfighting capability. It was not designed as a fighter but, a long range carrier borne interceptor. The fact that it handled the light weight MiGs as well as it did (when a well trained pilot was flying the plane) is a tribute to its design. The last I have heard both the Japan and the Turkish air forces still use the F-4. That is quite a statement, remember it is only 5½ years younger than the B-52!!!
well, PLAAF had J-6/Mig-19 in frontline service nearly… last one supposily retired couple of years ago. 😮 doing exactly what it was meant to do. as an interceptor.
and its cousine Q-5 is still in service, with no replacement in sight. its newest variant a twin seater just flew recently. 😮
laser designator the whole works.
It is a long way from Link-16 to the level of sensor fusion found on Gripen/F-22/F-35, wouldn’t you say ?
Not sure where the original came from, as it is written on many places,
i think @signatory on militaryphotos will be best able to provide/explain the technical specs, (and perhaps provide a pdf) and he is found here.http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?84527-Gripen-News-Thread/page175
Link 16 supported about 100 kbps?
that’s alot.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole cockpit is very similar. But that’s just re-using as much generic Embraer stuff as possible, as all manufacturers nowadays tend to do.
cockpit =/= flight controls.
you can have a cockpit that looks every bit alike but the stuff behind it is night and day.
who knows, they may put side sticks into this thing.
