yes, add to that , R-33 is inertially piloted-based on target information downloaded to the missile prior to lunch- to the self homing point.

I came across a,thread in the forum talking about it, based on what I understood the location of event is beside town called Taqa (incorrectly mentioned as Tarqa in forum) .
the beach name is Khor Rori (“Khor” is arabic for Estuary, Rori seems unknown ancient word ).
Today this beach is considered protected archaeological site with pre-historic ruins been excavated.

some questions:
– why did the shooter wait before shooting
– why did the other guy count down
– what was the sound right before the missile launch
– does the Cobra have any defences or warning systems against such an attack?

-To get best position to get a lock-on and minimum exposure to the target -range, angle ,ect-
-To count the time to the battery and coolant life -battery and coolant duration and the main limiting factors for MANPADS-
-Indication for the lock-on statues of the Missile seeker-Light and buzzing tone used to indicate seeker lock-on for the shooter-
-Flares rounds and IR Jammers , DEPENDING on variant and upgrade level.

My understanding its because of how the MBT HKS (Hard kill systems) works–Arena is my example-, they are almost like primitive reactive/reflex kind systems.
They implement constant-not scanning- monitoring of possible threat directions by basic radar projecting radiation beam/s of radio waves with Doppler effect . They actually more like a road traffic speed camera -the fixed type- .With a number of pre set role to initiate the reflex -ejecting a projectile-, these include mainly threat speed and direction. as soon the threat inters the radiation beam and its fast speed reflect its singture in clear shift in frequency of radio , all the computer has to do is monitor the frequency shift and if its indicate a possible fast target heading towards -direction of the threat is done simply through Doppler effect ,red and blue shift in light- the tank ,it tireger the charges associated with direction of the activated beam.
So the MBT HKS stay passive most of time waiting for threat to get into its beam with two main parameters to be watched :
-Speed (pre set to today mostly subsonic AT missiles)
-Direction of the threat (only reacts to ones heading directly towards the tank)
both can be easily calculated through Doppler effect in the reflected frequency .
as you can see by this system will not activate if the projectile if it was not headed towrds the tank it protect, and will not react to a passing by vehicle as its not in the speed limit.
This totally opposite to CIWS/SAM ,these are complicate systems with multipliable level of search/identify/track/control procedures requiring different kind radars and elements , needed very powerful computer systems to calculate fire solutions and continue to guide the missile or gun barrel towards the target until it distraction.

Nice ….

Nice photos
So far seems aerodynamically sound :eagerness:, but isn’t that vortex looks too small/weak to do the necessary energising job of that big wing !?

Sub-munitions

It not PAK air force and its not Sub-munitions
The video is showing A-10 GAU-30 30mm Gatling gun attack run during a support mission over Afghanistan .

the two photos are not the same. thus the argument is not valid. the first one can be attributed to B-2 Bomber ,the second one looked more like a heavily modified triangle figure .

What missiles do Syrians have that can shoot out to (13nm) 22.2 km?

If i may give my best guess about the missile that hit Turkish RF-4, I will say it’s Pantsyr S1E most probably the one that hit it, even it’s quoted 20 Km maximum range officially , we must consider that distance 22Km from the cost is not so far from 20 Km and some kilometers difference could attributed to accuracy of Turkish radar data (or just a political cover up). Pantsyr S1E is highly mobile system and even though it’s radar guided, the missile is radio controlled to fuse activation and the tracking radar uses extremely high frequencies , and due to the fact the system is new in the area the Turkish air force were not able to update there EW systems (RWR, ECM, etc) to it’s new working frequencies, or simply the systems were Optically guided .this why there was no alert was given about the presence of a threat in the area to pilots.
My apologies for the poor English.

More interesting though, is what i have read in ACIG site ! ,one of Iranian (imperial air force then) RF-4 manged to dodged four K-13’s (AA-2 atoll)fired from a soviet Mig-21SMT that was trying to shot it down over soviet territory, all RF-4E was doing seems was firing it’s photo flash cartridges and opps! the missile is lost.

Looking forward to see a photo of these cartridges.

May I,,,

The article talks about an official from Boeing “Paul Oliver” who announced that his company being unexpectedly approached by the Kuwaity military authorities for more detail information about the latest addition of F-15 the Silent Eagle.

then article explains that Boeing also trying hard to market it’s Fighter F/A-18E/F in the region especially the Kuwaiti air force. After that the article shed some light in latest plans of GCC air forces to modernize their air forces.

He mentioned about a request made by Saudis in September 2009 to purchase 72 F-15SE a request that promote strong opposition from Israel which succeed in forcing US to accept selling the fighter the Saudis without any of it’s long range arsenal. the author looks at Omani (RAFO) latest interest, a new 18 F-16C/D, he mentioned that US tough and moody regulations regarding their army sales in the regions keeps the Omani options opens towards acquiring 24 Eurofighter Typhoons.

about this part : “”…may lead Gulf capitals to work Palmissour which does not fall Palmasor” ,,

In original Arabic text , it was talking about the GCC countries looking for alternative sources for their military hardware needs, away from US hard to full fill conditions for any hardware purchased from them.

sorry for the poor language.
