Quite correct….sorry.

You still do not explain what UK industries would supply income sufficient to support the country in the event of economic isolation.
Buying power……thats the problem. To survive we have to SELL things not buy things. Thats one of the reasons we have the deficit we have (one, I appreciate there are many others).
To survive let alone make in roads to our perilous economic situation we have to earn money from exports. How, if we are effectively frozen out from all our major markets. Over 50 % of our current exports are to the EU. Once we go outside the inner circle do you really think that would be maintained.
Oh and save me from the “the last government destroyed Britain argument”. Did you see the program last week on RBS and how they brankrupted them selves through sheer greed in around 4 years and nearly took the country with them ?
There are many things I disagreed with regarding the last Government, I grant you.
Tell me, what other countries could we trade with and what would we actually trade ????
If this isolation occurs just watch the “City” disappear and re-appear in Frankfurt.
Why would anyone want to trade in London, a city isolated from all the major markets.
The US are already putting pressure on the UK not to go down the isolationist approach. We need to solve the current west world econmic not make the problems bigger.
My “attitude” as you call it has been formed not by the last government but from visiting over 70 countries and working in many of these. My “attutude” was such that when made redundant in my late forties I “got on my bike” and travelled many hundreds of miles to get a new job. My “attitude” is formed from hard work, an open mind and extensive travel throught this country and the world. I am very proud of this and proud of my country of birth and not being a “little Englander”.

…..and the moon is made of green cheese!
So, we could have invaded Europe without the Americans……barking.
The US eneterd the war to “promote the US”. Tell that to all those Americans that gave their lives for our country amonst other things.
I am flabagasted at your arguments…..I started replying but they are so rediculious it is not worth wasting my time.
Do you really think imperialism and empire building are good things?
Please explain how the UK economy could stand alone, outside Europe and isolated from the US? Because that will happen.
What business would want to operate from such a country ? The City would be a ghost mile withinin a year. We have no natural resources to speak of. A little Gas and oil which will not last much longer and Maggie got rid of coal mining.
What is the colour of the sky on your economic planet.

A/ Please explain to me how this country could survive economically in isolation.
B/ Yes we have have some proud history but we also have some history we cannot be proud of.
The wealth of the UK was based on the UK going around the planet. Invading countries, killing lots of people, taking all their resources and then making them buy products from us.
We have to do things a little differently these days.
In the last 70 years this country has not been independant but has relied on the United States. Without the economic power house of the US we may not (sorry would not )have won the second world war. I could write a book explaining the flaws in your argument regarding so called independance.
We are a very small, poor nation. We are neither strong nor independant. It is not about being “ruled” its about trying to survive economically.
Your argument is very niave.

I see your point and would love to debate it in detail over a bottle of Bushmills. Alas……
I believe in keeping an open mind and trying to avoid being dogmatic but let me put my argument like this.
Britains declining economy is far too small for us to operate in splendid isolation. We depend on foreign businesses and investment to keep the few remaining segments of manufacturing industry. If we opt for isolation we can say goodbye to virtually all foreign investment and we will have few if any ways of earning any income. If we opt out of Europe, Frankfurt will take over as the major finance centre in Europe. In short the UK will go bust very quickly. A collapse in society as we know it will follow.
I dont beleive that Europe has all the answers. But its the only chance we have.

You might not want isolation but there are two choices…..
In or out.
Out = total isolation.
Especially when you factor in a fully Republican USA.
I do not beleive that the EU is the panacea. They have made a complete dogs breakfast of the Euro.
However we are a small country with its economy in terminal decline (as to some degree is Europe). We cannot survive on our own and to go down such a road is economc suicide.
China will usurp the US as the worlds major super power. India and Brazil will become major economic powers.
Europe is in decline because our labour costs are too high and we do not have sufficent natural resorces. If we all stick together we may just have a small chance.
The world is changing very quickly indeed at the moment. We must keep every option open and listen to new ideas.
Not keep to tired and dogmatcic political approaches that should remain stuck in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Do I think Labour would do much better ? Under Milliband and Edd Balls certainly not. However on this point, Milliband , I believe is correct. Oh and please, please , please Mr Clegg. either grow some b@alls or resign.

Please provide me with any quotes where I stated that Britain should have joined the Euro.
Your comments are factually incorrect.
