Let’s see what airlines have the RR powered 747-400’s. BA, CX, QF, NZ, and South African. That’s not a huge chunk, infact NZ AND QF have GE powered 747-400’s. If the RR RB-211 is such a great engine, why isn’t it offered for the 747-400ER? You can only get a GE engine. But I can tell you this, I sure know the difference in sound of all 3 engines. This is due to the fact that I was a ramper working for a POS company at LAX, I would work in the BA bag room, when we heard those RR enigines we knew the bird was here, sometimes a QF would throw us a curveball.

A huge chunk of 747-400’s do not have them.

The A340 -200 & -300 have CFM engines with 38,000 lbs thrust each. That’s a 737 engine powering a big boy like that. What were the (SC)Airbus engine engineers thinking? They weren’t!!

Yes, powered by another company who can’t produce good engines!

CFM not make good engines??? You have no clue! In fact CFM is a huge engine maker. Look at the 737’s all but the -100 & -200 all the rest are CFM engines, look at the DC-8’s most of them are re-engined with CFM’s, KC-135 refuelers in the USAF all have the CFM engines.

I love this aircraft, but it reminds me of a flying cigar. I’ve flown on it, very smooth a/c.

I witnessed it when I was a ramper at LAX, I worked for a company that serviced BA, PR, KE, CX, JL, LT, AS, NCA, CX Cargo. When we finished offloading the cargo & baggage from the a/c the Line Mechanics had their ladders out up to the CFM engines on the A340-300 Pouring in the oil in each engine. The reason why it used so much oil is the fact that those engines spin at a higher RPM, thereby burning the oil.

The British Airways Line Mechanics that would be assigned to Philippine Airlines, when the A340-300 would come in, they would have to put just about a whole case of oil into those engines, now when the 747-4F6 would come in, It would take 0-8 quarts of oil. PERIOD. Plus the Vertical Stabilizers of all the Airbuses are composit, plus the airbuses use cheaper AlNiCo than Boeing. Also Hold 5 of the A340 is alot smaller than the Hold 5 of a 747. There were times when the Cargo load controls wouldn’t work. That’s my 2 cents!

That is correct. If VN was gonna join any alliance, it should be in oneworld, I believe it’s due to the fact that they codeshare some of the HKG-Saigon routes with CX. It would be very nice to see that bird come here to LAX.

John Travolta has his own Boeing 707 painted up in QANTAS colors, I believe it might be an ex-QF bird. Garret Aviation at LAX there are some privately owned 707, 727, 737’s along with the Bizjets that are parked there.

The movie braveheart twists what did happen during that time, another thing any of you scotsman out there should know that Tartans weren’t around during William Wallaces time. The movie Pearl Harbor changed history, the Battle of Brittain was well over by January 1941. Shouldn’t our AAC have had P-40C’s not P-40E’s? Have any of you Scots & Brits seen the movie “A Bridge Too Far”? That whole planning was Monty’s. Great planning on his part, that whole operation was a huge failier. Operation Market Garden. How about the movie Patton?
