727’s don’t have a lock out pin, you had to disconnect the steering control on the nose gear so you can push it back, if you forgot to reconnect, the plane would not have any steering control, plus the mechanic would kick our butts!!

I’ve been posting for almost 1 year now, been to Imperial Hill, the very nice spotting area in El Segundo over looking the south side of LAX. I’ve also eaten at the In’ N’ Out on Sepulveda watching many-a southwest fly in. Long Beach Airport is a short Drive from where I live. Need to get over there & do some spotting.

I’m sure it’ll also help cut down problems with Hydraulic systems, as in leaks.

Back when I was working as a ramper, the line mechanics always told us be careful when connecting the towbar when someone was in the cockpit, if they barely touched the nose steer control, it would snap the towbar & break a leg.

Did the plane take a nose dive on you guys? What did the Captain say when you told him over the headset that basically the plane had no working nosegear?

Nice Models. I have 3 Gemini Jets. All of them are 747-400s. One of them is a Virgin Atlantic in the previous sceme, & 2 British Airways, one with the Nalanji Dreaming tail, the other is the Wunala Dreaming tail. They run for about $20-$30USD depending on the model, of course. The multi-packs will cost more, of course.

Was that an A319/A320 or a 757/767 towbar?

    Not all mechanics are idiots

I think I know what happened. The idiot mechanic or idiot ramp tramp did not make sure the pin was in the nose gear, when it came time for push back, when the paymover tried to turn the nose wheel of the a/c it did not turn, due to the roughly 3000psi in the hydraulic system of the nose gear bent the hell out of that tow bar!

p.s. no offense wrenchbender on the ‘idiot mechanic’

That will be a beautiful sight to see yet another long haul 744 at LAX. Looking forward to seeing it fly over my house & to go spotting near LAX.

Nothing I guess, just wanted to show that us Yanks have good taste by having our British allies aircraft on display in our museums. These beautiful birds still fly.

Here’s another pic from the same Museum, take a look at the wing tip on the Starboard Wing…
