Not a lot of technical info. available, but the film is originally called Dead Aviators and the pilot’s name is Murray Kot. 🙂

Thanks Paul, but this actor was male, not that this would prevent the film company from changing a minor detail. No guess on the film name yet? There is no film called Talk Down.

The CarterCopter crashed on the day that it achieved its (unofficial) barrier break, although the crash was on the subsequent flight. The achievement was that the Cartercopter became the first rotorcraft to pass the mu-1 barrier which is where the ratio of its airpseed (170 mph) exceeded the tip speed of its rotor (107 rpm) to the ratio of mu 1.02. The components for the new prototype are already under design.

The film was directed by and flown by George Roy Hill, now deceased, who was also involved with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. There were no studio takes of airplanes. All scenes with Robert Redford climbing on the wing were done without security harness or parachute. Strange but true, that is my information! The filming was done in Texas. Don’t know about any connection with Chipmunks! :p

Constellations and helicopter in flight.

If the upload works, you will see the Constellations at Avra Valley and a helicopter landing at Marana Air Park and then check out the rest of the aircraft at Marana! :rolleyes:
