Cool sites………I stand corrected……..just that on the prog “10 things about volcanoes” on BBC2 the other night stated that Krakatoa was the largest single explosion ever!!
http://www.scarborough.k12.me.us/wis/teachers/dtewhey/webquest/nature/10_largest_volcanoes.htm this site is only for the size of volcanoes not in the way that they destroyed themselves. Krakatoa dissapeared in almighty explosion not in multiples as the others did…

I think you will find that the largest non nuclear explosion ever was when Krakatoa blew its top early in the morning of May 20, 1883:eek:

Very nice shots. From past experience take the arr/dep time for AN124s with a pinch of salt – I’ve seen them land 4 hours early and also 28 hours late :p
That’s the problem with non scheduled cargo charter flights……..you should try working operationally with them 😮 we have to sort the mess out from previously delayed flights when customers pitch late with cargo deliveries!!
Good pics of our aircraft though:D

Photographs clearly show the right-hand engine was not running at the time of impact, since the fan blades are still intact.
The left-hand engine blades all have their tips missing. It is not clear from the photos when this damage occurred. It may have occurred in flight, in which case it would have ceased delivering significant power at this point, or it may show this engine was still running on impact and the damage occurred then.
Either way there was certainly an engine failure, possibly double.
The engines will free spool in the airflow even if not under power……unless there is a catastrophic engine failure or the engine turbine locks up and the drag from such an event would cause a airacrft to yaw into that engine….
Let the AAIB do its work and the truth will out as they say 🙂
