sorry, I must be one of the 99.9%…what is the BoB “doorbell” incident you refer to? Is it (as I assume) the use of a doorbell sound effect when none historically should be there, or the wrong type?

    cheers

    greg v

They are going on about when one of the pilots come out of a house that there is an electric doorbell push on the door frame and it shouldnt be there!!!

What they should remember are that these films are made for entertainment value not as full blown historical reference works :p Although some historical works do leave at lot to be desired!!

Not that the Gazelle can be fitted with TOW missiles… But yes, a number of Army Gazelles recieved the TOW sights from the Army Lynxes after those lost their anti-tank job. I don’t think it’s a full IR sight, but i could be wrong.

Cheers M8Y long time since I worked with the Gazelles (late eighties!!)

I could’nt remember if if was HOT or TOW

The device on top is actually a missile controller for the second pilot/gunner when the aircraft is fitted with TOW missiles…:)

And as for the AN-225, it is also approved for N-EMA but has not visited yet. When it diverted into PIK a while back, only reason it didn’t come to N-EMA (which was filed #1 diversion) was because crew requested PIK as they were more familiar with that airport.

Yep I was on that night and we had to divert from SNN as they banned the aircraft whilst enroute!!! headless chicken state Alpha for 10 mins trying to find airport that would accept such a beasty…. good old PIK came up trumps as they had better WX forecast and crew accepted on this basis but EMA were on the case at such short notice to accept the beast!!
