    Really?

You either didn’t hear or read about comments made by a certain PLA general recently at the PLA Defence University, have interpreted them very differently to almost all political analysts and commentators, or have forgotten that a blast like that is delivered on a fairly regular basis.

Are you from the UK or NZ?

Read that. Just a bunch of dopey Aussie journos putting words in his mouth.

    Lets me rational here.

Clearly China is stepping over the mark, but all of this drama is also due in part to the Americans drumming up fake outrage over decades old disputes. Countries like Vietnam and Phillipines can now use the Americans as leverage to push their claims. During the 1980s when China clashed with Vietnam over the Spratley Islands, the Americans were probably supplying the Chinese with intel.

And then we have Korean nationalist lunatics like SlowMan claiming Manchuria.

    No, no confusion at all.

China has declared its “right” to control everything that is done in the Yellow Sea (between China & South Korea) and the South China Sea… all of the South China Sea.

This includes denying passage to military vessels of other nations… they told the US last year that holding a naval exercise with S.K. in the Yellow Sea (much nearer S.K. than China) was “a violation of China’s sovereignty over that sea” and that it would be considered a deliberate provocation.

China’s recent statements make it clear that China believes it should have total control of all east Asian waters that are not within 12 miles of another nation’s shoreline.

China has had no problem holding one standard for its claims and another for everyone else’s claims & rights.

You are confusing economic rights with territorial rights. That BBC “territorial waters” map is really misleading from a legal perspective.

Can’t read Thai well to guess the small print. The title says “History of Air Wing 102”, the second image mentioned that it was set up alongside Air Wing 1, and was previously known as Air Wing 2.

24x F/A-18 C CBR+ were ofered last July, but the purchase was not excersided. It was a sweet deal too, with AIM-120-C7 and AIM-9-X, and some 8x C-130H.It was just after the new minister of defense took office. If the SuperHornet is selected as the plane to standarize to, then I guess those legacy hornets will come as a stop gap, and transition unit.

Just curious, do you have a source I can quote for this potential F/A-18 deal? I can’t seem to find any information in English language press.

I have heard about this before, but can’t seem to remember where from.

I thought this was originally a hoax story generated by Chinese internet users, intended to force the PLAAF to come out and deny it, an in the process, reveal more details about their involvement at Anatonlian eagle, which was kept a secret at the time.

There is too much margin of error by measuring the length based on the pilot’s head.
If you get the measurement off by 1cm, and you need 200 heads for the length of the
plane, you’d be off by 2m.

Can someone please give me the exact length of the buggy, the truck, the J-10S,
    the FC-1, and the K-8?

There is a pretty systematic way of approximating the length of J-20, and its not by
    simple arithmetic.
