Nice shots Andy
Wonderful stuff Who was the Spitfire Pilot?
wonderful pictures Anna as always
btw the railway track. The loco is from the Burma railway and still has bullet holes in it. The track is however I think part of the railway taken from Orford Island. Same guage as used on the front in WW1. In fact inside the museum there are an engine and other bits from the period.
Some pictures from the night

Me with the great man ( thanks Tony G )

Below he talks about his friendship with Hanna Reitsch. I just watched her as a character in the movie operation Crossbow where she piloted a specially adapted doodlebug to find outwhy the kept crashing the previous 4 flights had ended in crashed with the deaths of the pilots.

One of our Vice Presidents here at Martlesham is Don Strait
http://acepilots.com/usaaf_strait.html
He last visited us here at Martlesham in 2008. We had a lunch for him at the ” Black Tiles” and establishment he used when he was CO at Martlesham with the 356th Fighter group. He was their highest scoring Ace. You may have seen him in the signing tent at the Legends Show
he recently sent me the document below which I think is rather nice. Its shows him as a Major which he was at Martlesham, but he actually retired as a Major General.
He is now in his 90s

Great shots Brian as ever. I must see if my Nikon D90 has the same setting
brillianr mate
I aquired one from a chap who had used one on a fishing boat, in perfect working order and in its case with service dates stamped in the lid. i got a free copy of the manual from IWM. The compass cost me £10 in 1997
Wonderful pictures. I havent been for a while but they used to fly right overhead, not being a public display
Here is a video from 1997 Pilot Mike Chatterton. 14 years old now so not modern quality. They were so low. You can see the size of the clouds change as I zoomed out. One of my favourite shots.
You may if you wish look at my other pictures.

Talking of last days
I had n open day at martlesham and arranged a flyover by the Lancaster, It just happened to be the very last day od Sqd Ldr Dave Thomas and we were his last call before getting home. he went round for 20 minutes and gave us a brilliant time. he didnt want to finish
if your interested there is a link to that time. The video was good for its time i suppose.
I was in my late teens when doing a part time job of grdening in a local Manor House on a hill. My friend and I were sitting down in tr amazement a large number od WW2 planes in English and German markings went over in a formation. it was scary, I have a copy of the previously mentioned paperback aabout the making of the film and it actually quotes the day when they retuned from Spain heading for Duxford and missed Duxford due to language problems and finished up at marshalls in cambridge.
RAF Lakenheath Visit
Martlesham Heath Aviation society had a great visit to RAF Lakenheath on the 29th September 2011 Our main subject to see was the HH-60G Pave Hawk, but we also got some more including a visit to the control Tower. Although we had been there before the Tower is always an exciting place to be.
Thanks to all the Guys and gals and Mag Mark Ledbetter and his Pave Hawk Crew.
