The thing about patience is that it is finite.

It is inexorably linked to trust, and both are gone.

We have had a MONTH of  ‘Sit tight Guys, we are on the case ‘ and yet still NOTHING significant has changed, and the once-valued forum is remains dysfunctional,  despised, and now pretty much deserted.

The sad truth is that the people appointed by Key to concoct this horror-show clearly had no meaningful  understanding of the forum, and did not bother to take time to understand its user-profile, or its function, or even trial any of their half-baked ‘innovations’.

It was ( we have to use past tense now) much more important than FlyPast magazine, because 19 years of accumulated historic aviation knowledge and history FAR eclipsed any library or printed resource, and it is probably all going to be lost now.

Yet still Key and their IT ‘experts’  treat the forum with indifference and bullsh*t, and that is why people are so saddened, and patience now is exhausted.

I suppose the sentiment is  in the right direction.

However, perhaps you haven’t noticed, but almost everybody has gone.

A month ago, you faced an avalanche of criticism about what you had done, yet you chose offer nothing but platitudes.

If the forum can rise again from these ashes, I would be amazed. I think it is over.

Dont’ be such a naysayer !

A new thread is a new thread, and these days, they are hard to find round here.

Plus, I expect it looks really whizzy on a smart-phone.

Put the old forum format back up. Nobody is posting and nobody will post under this format.

The new website format can stay. Its just the link to the forum should go back. to the previous format. You could make the colors yellow and blue and put up the new logo.

    Otherwise its done ”

    Nev,

Sadly, your timing is unfortunate. You come at a time when Key Publishing have very effectively (perhaps accidentally  ) driven away  most of the long-standing contributors to the once-respected forum.

Peter Arnold is the individual you need to track down. He is a well known figure, especially in the Spitfire world.

If ANY improvements actually are pending, or perhaps if  ‘they’ will implement just one, then please, please make all images posted appear as an image, not just a link. It really would make a difference.

I think the main problem with this forum, is you have made it such hard work to view and move around it.

In McDonald’s  ( burger joint ) by design they have chosen hard, smooth,  bright surfaces, primary colours and the lights turned up to ‘squint’ , so that customers do not feel  comfortable, and are not inclined to hang around, blocking tables.

It seems odd for a forum to  adopt the same philosophy.

    So, about 195 flyers left.

This tally is about the most accurate out there.

”Not Included: N16005 of the Lyon Air Museum and N1944A of the Fantasy of Flight collection – both are not currently operated. C-FKGL ditched in a lake on June 21, 2019. N59314 suffered fuselage and tailwheel damage in a hard landing on August 1, 2019. HK-2820 was damaged in a runway overrun on August 15, 2019. N437GB ditched in the Atlantic Ocean on October 18, 2019, while on approach to Nassau, Bahamas.”

    Great work from John Terrell.

The Historic community needs a coherent, usable forum,  one that is not frequently being jerked around and ‘improved’

It could be here, from a continuity perspective it should be here,  but it is sensible to start exploring other options. I think a straight-forward user friendly platform that did not require sun-glasses would have no trouble attracting a near total migration of previous  users.

My confidence in Key to listen and then act upon the concerns of the forum community is getting thinner by the day.   I strongly suspect that , odd tweaks aside, THIS is it .

Khalem,  you are in a difficult positiion as anyone can see, and going your best with grace and patience. But if your role is really only to murmer platitudes  and play a bit of positive mood music, then people will (are ) feel their patience has been tested enough.

We are nearly two weeks into the Great Forum Debacle . There is a lot of talk of ‘jam tomorrow’,  but still we see precious little jam.

”I suspect that Key have taken the view (or bowed to pressure) from the higher percentage of possibly younger people that frequent the non-historic forums for a more social media friendly format, rather than the old farts that frequent the Historic forum, as as the site is for all, Historic users have suffered the most?
Obviously, if the Modern mil and other forums are equally pissed off with the new format, then that really would be a massive own-goal by Key, but I suspect that may not be the case?”

Its a shame, but I don’t expect Key are bothered one way or the other, unless they see it affecting their balance sheet over time.

”Wow, that new format is rough.

‘More important than the format is the fact that a major change to functionality and appearance was made without notice (let alone consultation) to the contributors and users. This demonstrates how much the actual powers-that-be value or understand the forum. Immediate reversion and apology (which isn’t going to happen) wouldn’t bring back those that have shrugged and stopped going to the site.

”Not sure if they work, but trying to read anything is very difficult. I have given up on it.

    and so on………………….

That yellow banner has gone now,  thanks for that.

I woud have gone for light blue,   but  dull orange is an improvement.

Quite a lot of text here is italicised for some reason, it looks needlessly ‘urgent’ , maybe that is quite  quick fix.
