150000hours without engine failure..
A record for single engine fighters.

What weapon destroyed these guys? Cluster bombs maybe?
cluster isnt used due the harm of blinders to the civilians…
I heard that the F-35 turns like a Foxbat.
at least Foxbat is a fast jet…
Against “overwhelming enemy numbers” delivery of bundles of AAMs by ballistic missile might be the best option.
Or swarms of MALD/MALI-like (a little larger) aerial mine UAVs, launched from cargo planes, forming a sensor and kamikaze perimeter for a couple of hours.
More effective than a BF-1. (Or is it FB-1?)
Ballistic seems to me expensive and a long time from launch to impact, so hopefully the tracking f-22 can wait that long…. also why isnt that great idea integrated today with all kinds of ordinance? It would have made internal weaponbays obsolite and F-22 and F-35 lighter and faster(less bulky)…
MALD/MALI in combination with F-22 or Ballistic goods?
Why not use a B2 then?
Nic
I found that B-1B has 1/10th of the RCS of the B-1A…
http://www.ausairpower.net/TE-LR-Penetrators.html
And that B-1A is a good 10sqm..
http://www.deagel.com/Long-Range-Attack-Aircraft/B-1B-Lancer_a000534001.aspx.
that gives it 1sqm! not bad for a big bomber..
With an upgrade this can probably be tweeked even more..
Apparantly its a 7:th of the FB-111. so that rules the use of that AC. Add to that the external loads..

B-2 are not that many in service and can not fly supersonic..
If you are going to have a heavy stand off interceptor, why do you need to use a B1 – why not use a commercial airliner airframe?
The US proposed using a C-135 with 24 Eagle AAM in Project Aerie in 1957 and Vickers proposed a AA version of its VC-10 carrying 18 air to air versions of CF299 under the code name Red Barrel.
There was also it seems a HP proposal in 1958 to fit Thunderbolt missiles to its Victors.
Sustained supersonic speed for avoid retaliationfire from survivors?
I think in combo with F-22, an upgraded B-1B will be a good arsenal in a scenario with overvelming enemy numbers. The only problem i see is the RCS, maybe its smaller than one can expect? How much can a good and strong ECM protection compensate against china tech radars?
Afterall the guys who come up with this idea probably thought this one throu..
Anybody have good estimate?
Shortlist for A2A capability: EF-2000, Rafale, Gripen NG.
Shortlist for A2G capability: F/A-18E/F, Rafale, F-16IN.
Shortlist for multirole capability: Rafale, F/A-18E/F, Gripen NG.
Shortlist for price and cost: MIG-35, Gripen NG, F-16IN.
Shortlist for political relation: F/A-18E/F, Rafale, EF2000.
i think you can shortlist your shortlist by only care about the two last rows.
(i changed it a bit, i think you should not underestimate EF countries or france for that matter 🙂
The only thing could make things look different is if one/two/three of the fighters didnt go though well in the evaluation.
Maybe one or two didint make it at Leh, maybe one or two have some problem showing a “india style” radar mode or datalink antenna, who knows..?
I dont think TOT will be a discriminator at the moment, that is the next step together with the determing the lowest bidder.
Just because one band is where optimization is, doesn’t mean that the F-35 has a conventional signature is every other band. The F-35 also has IR, etc.. signature reduction. Additionally, it’s a bit premature to say that stealth trade offs, have hurt the F-35’s performance to such a degree, that it’s uncompetitive. The F-22 is even stealthier, and it certainly isn’t hindered in performance, when compared to other fighters.
you kind of missed my point, preformance is after the competion in the AtoA envelope. when one of following statements is fullfilled:
1. When the competitions sensorsuit is on par again
2. can tackle the X-band stealth better (IRST, L-band etc.)
than F-35 will have big problem..
It would be a luaghing stock, nothing more.
When did the F-22 become a multirole bird:confused:
Do you really mean US should design a new aircraft for this purpose…?What USAF need is a new Striker which is three times larger than F-35.
It could use two F-135 engines, a wopping large radar, go with some LO feature but nothing crasy expensive stuff..
You partial get some of the ‘RAND’ stuff in it like ability to carry # missile, has a long loiter time and a powerfull radar.
..
that sounds very expensive 🙂
I don’t think either the Typhoon or the Rafale will be in a position to seriously compete with the F-35 unless EADS and Dassault do a Silent Eagle and develop a version with internal weapons carriage.
compete isnt a problem in AtoA combat, in deep strike i high threat they wont compete (thou rafale have a incredible deepstrike range)
x-band stealth is overrated in my book. Its good, but in f-35, it takes tole on other preformance requirments which seems today basic for a new fighter.
Maybe that works today when avionics is top notch, but not in a few years.
Again thats my opinion..
actually i think medium speeds 0,4-1M F-35 will be a good preformer.
The engine with enormous thust and high bypass will do the trick.
But the high wingloading will probably not be as greacefull..
Used F-16 will not be as cheap (to buy and fly for 30 years) and probably much worse avionics than LCA, but probably a better flyer and better arsenal of weaponry (as for now).
Seems to me that no AF wants second best these days, so it needs to be better than F/A-50 and cheap. I dont think gripen C/D will be possible to order in era as the LCA mk2. So it can not be seen as a competitor. The last C/D is probably built for Thai AF.
I think it will be good possibility to export if the price is right even more so with its domestic engine. Also i think cheap Mig-29 variants will be the biggest competitor? (if its not gotten more expensive these days)
Austria bought secondhand ex-Swedish air force Drakens.
Yep, about 750 produced and about 160 ended up outside sweden.
acoording to Wiki, austria also bought the J29 ..
which i didnt know
the future is the world bound for more co-ops that for sure.
I dont think sweden or saab will do another independent fighter.
i think India/brazil will get the free players of the west to co-op with them. thats my 5 cents.
They received no export orders for the Tunnan, Draken, or Viggen at all. And yet they are still around today.
Draken was exported to danmark, austria and finland..saab 105 to austria.
