Although this thread seemed to drop away some time ago . I thought i might revive it with an update on XS 177. I have just aquired this old beauty . Plan to have it back in the MACAWS Colours for Static Display.
The best of luck with her, i have shed a few drops of blood over her whilst she was at Meg. You know that she has 1 Vole kill to her credit from when she was blown over in high winds.
In the LLA Autumn magazine, the new CO, Duncan Sampson says the scheme ‘represents a Hurricane 11c of 34 squadron While serving in SEAC usually flown by F/Lt Jimmy Whalen with his personal insignia on the nose.’
mmitch.
Big mistake in LLA Autumn mag, the new CO is Sqdn Ldr Duncan Mason.
Tremendous work Blue, it makes XS186’s paint job look like an afternoon with a spray can. Getting the right conditions when you are working outside is a nightmare.
Great to see her twice on Saturday whilst working on our JP at Metheringham, once climbing away from a a low pass over Walcott then a couple of hours later she did a low banked turn over us before departing towards Waddington.
It has been there a couple of years , as mentioned it is a composite from 4 different craft I believe, it is about a mile up the road from the Lightning at Thorpe Camp.
Have you got pics of those gauges – probably have them – somewhere!
Also, make sure your RPM is wired the right way round – its easy to wire them backwards.
Bruce
Attached are photos of the gauges. RPM is on existing plugs which are original so should be OK. Generator is outputing an AC voltage OK.
Probably the BBMF MkV, AB910, she had an air test yesterday. I saw her fairly high over Woodhall Spa heading North.
A full set of photos covering the installation is now viewable on the XS186 website:http://xs186.photos.gb.net
Thanks for those kind words, Ritch & Max. It is great to actually meet fellow enthusiasts and put faces to those who up till now have just been names.
Some photos of the engine installation.
A big thank you must go to Andrew who drove the fork lift, his ability to move the engine 1/4″ at a time made the whole job so much easier.
Did you see Greg’s Auster ?
.
It is not on view at the moment but we did have to move it to get the Viper out of the storage hanger.
Eep
I have some sort of small fly stuck inbetween my computer screen
