Thanks for the comments 😎 will post some more sometime soon. My shots tend to be of the historical side of aviation rather than airliners, but a quick visit to the end of runway 23 at gla is quite therapeutic 😀

A 300mm zoom lens, you wouldn’t find an equivalent zoom on digital uncless you fork out in excess of £1000.
what about the Nikon coolpix 5700, 8x zoom extends to the equivalent of 280mm, costs around 800 quid just now. I’ve had mine about a year now still very impressed with it. don’t have any of my shots on hand just now or would post one.

I agree that the airframes have to be conserved under cover. A spokeman for the NMS was quoted in the Scotland on Sunday on 8th June saying they would wish to keep concorde in a hanger if their bid was successful. I read it that they would rearrange use of the restoration and deep store hangers.
Although i support the MoF bid, i’m a bit doubtful if a 1000m runway is long enough to fly it in, but the museum seemed confident!

Glencoe
Not in the same league as Whalebones tale…
Imagine the scene. 1988 give or take a year. A beautiful sunny day in the West Highlands of Scotland; An unusual thing in itself some would say. While taking a day walk from Bridge of Orchy to Fort William (I was young and fit then), we stop at the Kingshouse Hotel at Glencoe for a bite of lunch and a pint of milk.
Standing on the bridge outide the hotel, looking west I see 4 Tornadoes coming up Glencoe heading east at about 500ft agl. Just then, I hear something behind me, then see above, 4 hawks heading west into Glencoe at about 500ft agl, ie at the same height. After much shuffling they managed to pass each other in the narrow space between the Buchaille and Beinn a’ Chrulaiste. I swear I saw a Hawk come within a couple of wingspans of its shadow!
My mate and I looked at each other in astonishment, then about 30 secs later another noise. An F-111 crossing Glencoe, from the Lairig Gartain, at about 1000ft. As we continued the walk we saw much of the F-111 and some F16s, didn’t see anything from the RAF.
I wonder to this day if the Tornados and Hawks knew beforehand that the other flight was going to be there.
thanks
Joe
thanks for the link to the airfield lists, have been looking such a list for Scotland for a while, found a few surprises!

Heron.
Suppose I must have known as I’ve seen it before but I’d forgotten it’s a Heron 1 with fixed undercarriage.
Seeing NXB again brings back many happy memories of spotting as a 10 year old at Abbotsinch in 67/68. must get down to Newark.

have to agree, as an ale drinker it still wont make me drink the stuff.
Now if Shepherd Neame sponsored a Spitfire. or Charles Wells (bombardier) sponsored a Lanc! …

cut out flying aircraft cause of the noise?
no way! what should be cut out is the overamplified ‘flight simulator’ ride sideshows, or at least turn the blinking things down. Do they have to be so loud that you can hear them the other end of the airfield?
rant over
