Sorry , I didn’t imagine there was a secret behind . However news are widely spread over France and Australia since 20 Oct. , but strangely nothing from UK ?
Sincerely it is nice another missing pilot has been found .
In fact it is BM180 lost 9 May 1942 , lost while involved in Circus 160.
Hello Philippe ,
That night four RAF bombers crashed east Le Havre . Oblt Heinz Rökker ( 2./NJG2 ) claimed three , Uffz Rolf Koch claimed one. Crashes were at Auberville-la-Renault ( Lancaster KB755 , 419 Sq ) , St-Vigor-d’Ymonville ( Lancaster ND817 , 582 Sq ) , Touffreville-la-Cable ( Lancaster LL922 , 50 Sq ) and Bolbec ( Halifax ND460 , 7 Sq ) . Claims were made from 23.29 to 00.06 . A fifth also claimed by Ofw. Strassner same area but not identified .
If you are studying crashes in your area at Notre Dame de Gravenchon there are several . For example on 22 Aug. 43 , a polish Spitfire which crashed hamlet Les Haies , while a Me109 crashed just near the chemist’s , both pilots killed. Also a german bomber lost in Dec. 1940 with casualties.
About LL922 I have Sgt Firth ( pow ) hand written account if requested. Mr Leveque ( whose brother was killed when the bomb load exploded ) was living near the crash-site and had collected many parts from the Lancaster , even a tyre .
Regards .
Hello Dan ,
I have some exciting news about Spit EN223 , could you please contact me off board at laurent.viton(at)neuf.fr ?
That would be great !

Hello ,
Here’s Laurent Viton aka Zorglub.
You are right , mid under gunner Douglas Skingle was not listed on Chorley’s book for an unknown reason. The crew of seven was the same from their first missions in April but each time the mid under gunner was a different airman as spare. It was the first time Skingle flew with Weis’ crew. There is some clue he was manning a .50 Browning , as some shells were found at the crash-site.
Now there is the MREU report and also from several witnesses here that nobody took care of the bodies. All was scattered over a large area when the bomb load still with the wreckage exploded many months later. There are no unknown crew lost 8 June 1944 and buried in local cemetaries such Dieppe , Poix , Beauvais or Rouen. The crew is officialy missing ( see letters dated 1949 to the relatives ) since that date.
We just want to honour localy these brave forgotten airmen . Oddly a Hurricane pilot went down in the same village exactly 4 years before on 7 June 40 , F/O W.Wilkinson 43 Squadron. He is buried at the Bailleul-Neuville churchyard.
Hello Dan ,
I’ve just send you a PM , you’ll have the picture .
The interest about MB800 in Belgium is that it was fitted with a Griffon Mk IV which is very rare , only 25 built.
Last time I went to German archives held at ECPA Paris , there were a lot of picture of crashed EN235 EB-S ( F/O R.H Hogarth , killed July 18 , 1943 , same mission Slack was lost ) near Abbeville where he was buried. The plane did not bury itself , was just a wreckage on the ground and the Griffon engine could be seen. The German pilot who probably claimed Hogarth is also pictured by the wreckage but I haven’t identified him yet.
I don’t know about Stenborg’s MB805 and what was found.

Hello Dan ,
Yes actually I do have this picture showing fuselage of DL-E or F amongst captured Typhoons and at least one P-47. This was taken in a hangar in France , could be Villacoublay .
However I’m certain it was Red Blumer’s EN626 lost 6 November 1943 in my area ( crash-landing ).
I yet have two more Spit XIIs lost here , at least MB796 ( Robert Boyd kia ) with buried engine is pinpointed , and EN223 ( Harold Heninger kia ) which needs more investigation to be located accurately.
