Nice yoke Nick from a great first generation jet passenger plane, Original coating and the elusive centre cap make it a fantastic purchase. Only 65 ships built and apparently so named because it travelled at 880 feet per second. I have never seen a CV880 in British skies but did have the pleasure of flying in a CV990 once from Spain to the UK. The later and more powerful CV990 supposedly being the second fastest passenger plane built only being surpassed by Concorde. The Spantax Spanish pilots who flew the CV990 in large numbers called it ‘The Maserati of the Skies’ . I believe the later CV990 was fitted with the same yoke too. Incidentally Elvis Presley had his own private 880 named the ‘Lisa Marie’. Great item, well done !

I enjoyed my visit to the Old Sarum aerojumble, it must be one of the friendliest museums about, the staff always making a concerted effort to greet and welcome you. It’s an ideal setting, located within a museum on an active airfield, most of the cockpits being open for inspection. I’ve noticed particularly on this occasion and on other visits it’s very much a buyers market at this event, As previously pointed out not many attendees apparent this year although there was a fair number of sellers. Two national events happening on the same day (wedding and football) may have scoured the number of people attending. Some good stalls were present and I came home with a boot load of bargains. Good to see that the museum were issuing early bird tickets as this seems to have gone out of the window in other events. Well worth the 160mile round trip for me, this is a great event and really doesn’t seem to get the support it deserves. Next one I think is Kenley aerodrome on the 3rd June.

Finally a glorious sunny day at Popham this year. In recent years the venue has been dogged with bank holiday wind and rain but the weather today was positively different. The layout seemed a lot more compact on this occasion, not a bad thing and saved on some leg work trying to take everything in. Personally I would say that there was noticeably a lot less ‘proper’ Aerojumble stalls today and by this I mean those stalls selling aircraft parts, and this probably equated to less than a handful of stalls. Some Aerojumble stalwarts were not present with their stalls this year, I believe that stalls were about £45 a pitch and this may have contributed to their non attendance. The majority of stalls were either autojumble selling car or motorcycle parts or those selling power tools, however this was as expected having been to this event on a number of occasions, the venue being predominantly geared towards motor vehicles. I really didn’t note anything worth mentioning for sale other than a Ju-88 rear end gun emplacement / turret and a Miles Martinet cockpit window frame.
I think Old Sarum is the next Aerojumble on the caldenner circuit, “It’s all about the chase!”

Certainly not Convair 240-440, I have come across a lot of these in the past.

My theory on post 1060, is the following and this is pure speculation on my part having had these types of yokes pass through my hands. There is a clear quality build difference between those yokes which were destined to fit on flying aircraft against those which were destined for fitting to static ‘Link’ aircraft.
At the end of the war some yokes which had been manufactured for ‘flying’ aircraft and now surplus to requirements had their center fixing adapted to be fitted onto link aircraft. I cannot think of another feasible explanation but would welcome other suggestions.

Hawker 1966, the above suggestion is also a good one and Link did also cross my mind. One clue to look out for is if the weight of your yoke is exceptionally heavy! The yoke for Link trainers were made from smelted scrap metal, as the link was not intended to fly, the weight of the metal was therefore not an issue. The weight difference should be obvious to that of a conventional yoke, may also account for the small centre key hole If it was not intended to fly.
