Thanks for your comments and thoughts Anon, taking into account what you said this evening I looked at the Pratt and Whitney R-1340 which appears to have very similar cylinders. Then I came across the BMW 132 engine which was built by the German’s under licence from Pratt and Whitney, this engine appears to have the wire clips fitted for the rocker covers. A quick check on Wikipedia shows that the BMW 132 engine was fitted to the Junkers W34hi and this version was mostly used by the Luftwaffe to train pilots and radio operators which fits nicely with the use of this airfield. At the time of of acquiring this item it did come with some other W34 items but there was no provenance to the engine cylinder other than the airfield it came from.

Trouble is there has been no definite answer, must say that all my years of gazing through cockpit photos through all time spans, I’ve never come across such a grip. Doesn’t the seller mention ‘trench art?’ in the description which may be the key to things.

Nice acquisition and in my opinion a good price paid for such a rare item. Well done on identifying it, I sometimes think that the research behind the item is half the fun of collecting in the first place.

Love the 880’s and 990’s, virtually extinct now. Wasn’t the Convair 990 the fastest airliner save for Concorde?
Wonder how the Spantax 990 Coronado restoration project is getting on, haven’t heard anything from Spain for a while….

    Richard,
Your control yoke always intrigued me and hopefully I have now managed to identify it for you, I believe it is from a Savoia-Marchetti S79 which was an WWII Italian bomber. If you google a picture of the aircraft you can see where the confusion between the JU52 is as they are similar design (to the untrained eye). I am unable to upload pictures of the Savoia-Marchetti S79 cockpit showing the yokes but if you google this yourself and click on google images you will see plenty of pictures.
Ohhhhh this forum is such an antiquated system of uploading images !!

I had one of these pass through my hands a good 10 years back. Originated from an Australian warbird, I say this because I wonder if the Australians produced their own instruments during wartime?

    Seen on eBay:

Looks like someone needs to wake up and smell the coffee, funny thing is that it’s not even a DC3 wheel.

Hi Twin Otter, Are there early bird tickets for the aerojumble? If so what are the prices over normal tickets and what time do the doors open. Thanks in advance.
