Wyvernfan is correct with the identification of the B25 wheel. Also more than likely correct for the Stirling wheel which also was the same wheel as the Short Sunderland.

Amazing, thanks for the information and posting the photographs, cloud painter. I must admit that France had a brilliant aviation industry with so many different beautiful designs.

If only more of these early birds had been preserved. Great era of aviation!

Nice work Nick, I like the way you have displayed it. I’m almost certain the PTT switch will turn up on eBay. The centre cap will be a little more difficult. The D.H Heron was a lovely looking aircraft.

So many of the Vickers yokes of that area Viking, Valletta, Varsity, Viscount had their own     Yoke designs but similar in style to the others. In fact the Viscount has two type of yoke designs dependant on the particular series of aircraft. I will try and get some photos uploaded to show the differences and how the Vickers yokes evolved. The latter two Vickers aircraft VC9 Vanguard and VC10 jet had virtually identical Yoke  designs apart from the positioning of a couple of screw holes for the clipboard which the Vanguard had. Anyhow nice acquisition you have Ian, the Valletta yoke being a little more obscure than the Varsity.

A nice Vickers Valletta yoke Ian. I always thought the Vickers Valletta (military version of the Vickers Viking) was a rather decent aircraft. Hopefully your not getting confused with the Vickers Varsity (Flying Pig) are you, which had a not too dissimilar yoke?

When I first saw the grip, the top part reminded me of a grip which passed through my hands some years back belonging to a French max holste broussard. Your grip is not from this aircraft but got me thinking that maybe it’s not from a British helicopter, but from an overseas manufacturer of helicopters?

I see that one particular auction lot is marked as instruments from Guy Gibson’s bomber.

A similar example from a Heron yoke, this one appears to have an adapter over the yoke stork.

Nick, attached is a photo of the PTT switch you probably need to seek, but unfortunately not spare for me to send to you.  The Switch stem is 22mm long and has a radius of 20mm. Perhaps you can measure to see if such a switch will fit your yoke regardless of screw thread or not.
Such an item may just drop in especially if you have a screw hole in the yoke arm to affix the switch in place.
I have purchased such switches in the past on eBay from userid gbspares and partboy, drop them a line to see if they have any in stock.
On a separate note I see that the MR4 Nimrod yoke sold, congratulations to the new owner, anyone on the forum?

Nick, Quite a few of these PTT  switches  have passed through my hands over the years. Throughout time  they have evolved in shape to a certain degree. However I have never seen one with a screw in bottom. All PTT switches I have seen are affixed by two small screws placed through the stork of the yoke and into the base of the PPT  switch (same as your a Vanguard yoke).
De Havilland Doves and Herons have the same yoke designs, the captains side normally had the PTT switch and a brake lever. Co pilots yoke had no switches or brake lever and were sealed with a cap on either end. Yours may well have had a different type of switch to the ‘can’ type or could the end plug have been screw fixed? Do you have a whole picture of your yoke, also what country did the yoke originated from in service, this may give a clue? In addition commanders yokes had the PTT switch on the left stork. Where is the empty screw hole on your yoke, left or right stork?

Nice rare item Martyn, especially if you have the switch blocks on the ends of the arms.

Nice yoke Martyn, is it a Valiant control wheel?
