How long do the MD-11’s have left with KLM? Must be one of the last European airlines to operate these?
Quite enjoy the SWISS BAE 146 flights in and out of LCY, Full throttle power for take offs on the short runway and steep descents on the return leg for the landings.
Excellent story Mr Interflug62M, the stuff dreams are made from.
Just how many Tristars are on this shore aprt from those in RAF hands. Is there still one abandoned/storage at Stanstead?
Great Photo of the DC-6 Peter! Wish it was still around.
I just miss walking up to the aircraft along the tarmac and enrtering through the tail stair case such as DC-9’s, B727, BAC 1-11 etc.. the air bridges seemed to have killed this off now, wonder if aircraft are still manufactured with an inbuilt rear staircase under the tails?
A good place to start looking for the instruments will be the up and coming aerojumbles this spring/summer 2011, obviously depending on which part of the country you live in. Shoreham (Sussex) Newark (Lincolnshire) and Brooklands (Surrey) the venue dates escape me at the moment.
Nice one, when is the next Bruntingthorpe open day?
The problem with the Brooklands Aerojumble (and I have to be careful because I have friends there!) was that they wouldn’t listen to me about organisational aspects of the event. Sorry if that sounds a little presumptious. I don’t mean it to. However, the fact is that I have had a little bit of experience of such events 😉 and had they followed my advice I think it would most certainly have worked.
I was involved with the first one, and to a limited extent the second one, but then they didn’t ask me back and ignored what I had tried to start achieving for them with number one. The bottom line is that they went it alone and would not listen to a single thing I told them!! In fact, they did the opposite of most things I advised. Dates, organisational aspects, admin, advertising….etc etc etc were all ignored in terms of what I told them. Had they not done so then I am completely convinced there would a different aerojumble event running there than is currently the case. And I may well have abandoned Shoreham as a result.
I tend to agree with you on this, Brooklands has so much potential, Location just off the M25, aviation museum and aircraft, cafe, BBQ’s facilities etc etc, an ideal location for an aerojumble but unfortunately it is not used to it’s full potential. I use to be a member of the museum some years back but always felt that the automobile side was always pushed further than the aeronautical side of the museum. Pity really as I can’t think of a better venue to hold an aerojumble (alongside Newark). If they listened to tried and trusted sources maybe the event would be much more of a sucess.
Many Thanks Wieesso and Propjet for the information, much appreciated.
On the back of this I am looking for information on any Lockheed Electra’s scrapped in Kinshasa (Congo) 1992-1996 in particular the registration number(s), could you help please? Thankyou.
Have you noticed the date has slipped by a week or two?
It usually co-incides with the start of, or end of the Beltring War and Peace show, thus making it an added attraction to one stallholder who has to travel far to get to these events.
With the undoubted saving of combined fuel costs not applying this year, I’m not planning to attend either event.
Last year I reckoned there were possibly seven or eight stalls selling aero of some sort. Who knows what this year’s total will be?
You will be missed, some of the years your stall has been “The aerojumble” part of this event
Everything aviation related really, models, aircraft instruments, clocks, switches, clothing, props, seats, bits of fuselage, instrument panels, compasses, grips, yokes, books, posters and the list goes on and on………all depends to the relevant sellers stock at the end of the day. I’m sure you will find something of interest to walk away with, no doubts there!
Great visitor for such an airport! Nice spot..
Yep good days, I remember the trips very well, sleepless hours on the night coaches down the M6 to LAP and LGW etc…the monthly typed and photocopied Starliner magazine featuring movements and trip reports…….the viewing terraces on top of the piers and those Diversion “Div” days! Great days and great variety of aircraft moving through the airport during those times. Sorely missed!
