Just how many different types of DC-8 were produced? Anyone in the know?
Fascinating stuff, just out of curiosity (and I will never get to one of these places!) how easy is it to purchase any memorbilla parts from these scrap yard places (i.e control wheels or thottle boxes etc) or is that a impossibility?
Wise choice, I always use London City now, even if it means a change at a European hub. London city has no crowds, no big queues at check in and no silly check in times of 3-2 hours before flights. It’s a very smooth hassle free and extremley efficient airport. Okay its got hardly any shops but who goes to airports to shop? I last used the airport 3 weeks back to LCY-ZUR-IST and IST-FRA-LCY went perfect. I can not stand Heathrow any more and for me flying from London city with a change in Europe is just as quick and without the hassles or headaches of LHR. When done to those who run LCY.
I totally agree with you, I had the pleasure of seeing one this weekend in Air France colours in Nantes Airport. Such a graceful aircraft!
The T-33 instrument panel on ebay is item number 220133030995 priced at buy it now for £314 (German Ebay). The seller also seems to be selling a few British fighter control grips, JP, Javelin, Seahawk etc… all a bit pricey though!
I quite often see a T-33 main instrument panel complete with half the instruments for sale on the German ebay site. Seems to be doing the re list rounds as no one over there appears to be interested (not particularly cheap though!) May interest someone who acquires any of these cockpits, I try and dig out the item number.
Thankyou for all your responses, flex 297 I have sent you a PM.
Andy, are you still going ahead with the aerojumble at Brooklands next year?
I echo what Alan has stated in his previous thread, I was pleasently surprised to see that there was a half decent turn out of stalls considering it was a first time event. Great location overlooking the airfield.
Some idea’s maybe for next year, I believe that there is a WWII aviation museum at the aerodrome run by the East Surrey Aviation Group? Don’t know if this was open but may have been good for them to have had the museum open on this day, this would been an added attraction for the punters and extra addmission fee’s for the museum (Forgive me if it was open but I didn’t see any signs!) Also I believe that they have a static Dove at the aerodrome, again would be nice (if possible) to see this aircraft towed around to the event and maybe opened for inspection.
The aerodrome has a very good cafe, there didn’t seem to be any easy access to this. Would have murdered a good breakfast and didn’t fancy the breakfast been cooked by the local ATC!
This is not any criticism of the event, I really enjoyed it and will attend next year, only expressing some idea’s to get the event up and running to make it a regular thing. Thankyou to the organisers for having the courage to organise an aerojumble in this current diminishing climate, again long may it continue.
10am gates open, let’s hope it’s sucessful and well attended.
Redhill, normally puts on an airshow in August each year, which judging by the size of the airfield is not bad at all. It normally co incides with the Eastbourne airshow and the organisers normally beg and borrow any aircraft returning from the Eastbourne show to fly over the airfield. Unfortunately this year it was cancelled, hey ho!
The aerojumble is probably the first at this venue although at previous redhill airshows they have had a few stalls selling stuff including aviation memorbilla and instruments but nothing on a large scale.
I will be attending and wish it success!
Hope to be there on Sunday, looks like a good show lined up!
I would be very reluctant to repaint any panel completely (unless damaged), you lose alot of its history in the process, plus that lovely cockpit smell!
Beside the panels hardly ever looked immaculate in the aircraft due to constant wear and tear, with scratch marks being touched up quite roughly.
Humbrol 33 and the ocassional spray and wipe off with WD40 works well.
Just my personal opinion but the above for me is absolutley correct, every scratch and mark on the panel is part of the history. I am very reluctant to re paint anything. Obviously at the end of the day its a matter of opinion and personal taste. Whatever you are the most happiest with is the correct way for you.
Peter, Jon H and Bruce, many thanks for the recommendations and tips, will give them all a go! Thanks again Fly.Buy
Restoration of metal work
Ross,
Thanks for putting the picture of the PR9 panel on the forum, not sure why I am unable to do so.
Dear restoration experts,
At the moment I am restoring some large aircraft throttle boxes (Vickers Viscount and Vickers Varsity), does anyone know the best way of treating corrosion, is there any substance I can brush on (as opposed to dipping the whole throttle box in a liquid) in order to remove rust and corrosion without damaging the original paint work? Any recommendations would be appreciated, Thankyou.
