To ‘restore’ or ‘not to restore’ can lead to some great debates dependant on personal taste. Similar to GYD I prefer my items as original as possible, better described ‘in as flown condition’. Every knock, scrape or chip is part of the stick or yokes history. Obviously there are times when an item is so corroded or in such a state that one has no choice but to repair and restore. However my money is always on leaving something in as original condition as possible, the item having lived, travelled and ideally with a story to tell.
Personally I would post here more often but get hacked off not being able to upload photos. Anyone else have this problem with uploading photos?
This is a great retro colour scheme. Aer Lingus have also been flying their Retro A320 into LAP, oppps sorry Heathrow, brings back great memories, thanks for the excellent photography.
Great shot, rare bird this side of the water.

I agree, the Il-18 is coming on nicely, good work! Keep us updated as I am interested to see how it progresses. I have a Il-18 in similar shape and condition also. It appears that the outer exterior coating can deteriorate rapidly and turn to dust as has happened with my example.
Nice control wheel, one of my favourite aircraft. Good luck with the restoration!
Stalls set up 8am
Public admittance 9am
Weather looks good for the event
Just a reminder that it is the KENLEY aerojumble / autojumble this coming Sunday 2nd June 2019.
NATO name for Yak-38 is ‘’FORGER’
Paul that’s a generous touch, well done! Hope you can take some photos for those of us stuck at home….
Kenley on Sunday the 2nd June 2019 is a combined aero / auto jumble event. Gates open at 9am, entrance £2.50. An advert for this event appears in the back of the flypast magazine, also stating that airfield tours are available.
Some great stuff in there, very interesting to see, thanks for highlighting it!
Alan is right in that it is a multiple event covering many facets but as Hawker1966 mentioned the queues to get into this event were unbelievable! Despite having a moan at the stall prices something near to £45, this event certainly brought the customers in their droves this year. I may well consider selling some stuff here next year with the added benefit of getting an early bird look at the other stalls.
Popham was pretty well attended this year with customers, I’ve never seen a queue so big to get into the show. Having said this aviation related stalls appeared to be minimal but this comes as no surprise. However there were one or two good aviation related stalls selling bits and pieces. I managed to walk away with a complete Vampire tail rudder, Gnat glazed nose cone, and a control wheel from a Vickers Viking. I saw that another aerojumbler managed to secure himself a throttle box from an Avro York, not complete but a substantial piece. So in essence there were few aerojumble stalls but some good pieces to be had, I was certainly happy with my acquisitions. There appeared to be a different layout for the stalls this year, being more concentrated together in rows. I found this a lot easier to get around all of them. Prior to attending I did toy with the idea of getting a stall myself this year to get shot of surplus items but the price of having a stall did put me off, an additional premium for a late booking on top of the already high price secured my decision not to sell. However as I initially pointed out this show does certainly attract a lot of people and I was left wondering if I should have bit the bullet and gone for a stall in the first place, I may well save this for Kenley aerojumble next month. All in all a good productive day for me.
