[QUOTE=Blackcat]so what actually is the case???
was the UK military so dumb to have a Herc to lift 10 personal or is it the British propaganda machine hiding something?? …. for 10 ppl won’t it have been a helo good enough??
BTW whats the SAM that the video shows, thats being fired ???[/QUOTE
Your post is dumb in itself. Firstly that is an unguided rocket that is being fired. I’ve flown in Hercs where I have been only one of three passengers. Have you ever heard of a transport carrying a mix of cargo and passengers?

Did anyone notice in the wreckage the engine was NOT an Allison turbo prop…but a ‘pure jet'(possibly a J57?)…Could it be yet another ‘friendly fire’incident..?All very mysterious, the route, the height, the cargo??

Please stop talking non-sense. The remains are those of an Allison T56. Please explain how the loss of the ‘other’ aircraft/aircrew is going to be covered up? I suggest you do some research on aircraft engines.

XV193 🙁
Not XV193. That airframe crashed in 1993.

I’ve heard this was a Jerkules rather than a Herc. Can anyone confirm?
Arthur it was a K.

It makes sense to me for Russia to be willing to sell the Tu-22M3 now as in the past this was an important aircraft in their fleet… ie heavy conventional strike. However now with the Tu-160 and Tu-95 both being adapted to conventional weapons the Tu-22M3 is starting to look a little redundant. Not that it is a bad aircraft… 2,000km radius with 24 tons of bombs is pretty handy, and in Chinese service they could reequip it with inflight refuelling to give it even longer range.
With the coversion of the former strategic bombers into dual use bomb trucks the lighter aircraft that had been performing that role has lost its role.Regarding the sale of Tu-160s perhaps they were referring to the newly upgraded Tu-160 which will have similar systems to the upgraded Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 when they get their updates. Considering the RuAF is having two more Blackjacks built for itself I don’t think they will want to sell any.
The Russians would have to break the existing START agreements to sell either BLACKJACKS or BEAR Hs to China. It’s utter non-sense that they would sell either of those airframes to the PRC. The agreements between the US/Russia on those strategic platforms would have to be annulled.

Interesting. I thought J-7s without missiles are only authorized to intercept the EP-3s. Low speed characteristics of J-6 and J-8II are not very good, unlike J-7, which makes the J-7 better to shadow a slow moving propeller aircraft.
Many of the intercepts are run without getting up close and personal. They tend to stand off rather than shadow. The RC-135/EP-3E crews are aware that they are there and under ground control. It is the intention to scramble and intercept rather than hanging off the wing that is important. Obviously strict guidelines and rules were implemented after the J-8/EP-3E incident.

As the submarines have no pennant number it is almost imposible to tell.
But the general look (esp. the location fo diving planes) of the submarine fits the look of USS San Francisco. Therefore IMHo it is USS S.F.
Now confirmed as USS S.F.

Nope. I think you’re refering to J-7s.
Apologies. The dates for the J-6 intercepts of EP-3s should have been 2002. On a number of occasions during 2002 J-6s conducted intercepts.

They are very well known fake images.

Los Angeles class SSN San Fransisco (711) run aground 600km south of Guam while conducting submerged operations. It’s been reported that 20 sailors are injured, one of the seriously.
USN expects the submarine to arrive at Guam on Monday.

On paper, some regiments are said to be still operational with them, but that’s in paper only. The planes may not be truly operational, and the regiment may only exist in paper, just collecting payroll and the elderly pilots waiting for retirement. Being a J-6 pilot in the PLAAF now is a dead end job.
I had a picture before where there is this hill of J-6 fuselages, not a pretty sight to those sensitive in this board. 🙁
It may still be a good close up combat fighter, but being WVR only has its disadvantages and the PLAAF still has the J-7s to do this. The J-6 is tricky to maintain, being two engine and all, and with a very short engine life. Many were built when Chinese factories have yet to hear about “standardized quality control”, and according to some, variances among the planes can range up to some planes being six inches longer than the others. Without the right tolerances of parts, these makes parts interchangeability among the J-6s alone, and from the parts bin, difficult and lucky shots. It makes even cannibalization difficult.
I can bet that older J-6s and the lemon J-6s would be the first to go to the scrap heap. The better built examples, the maintainable ones, and the more recent planes among them, are probably still flying around, for pilots to practice dogfighting or add hours to their sheets. Eventually they will go to.
Ironically, the Q-5 Fantan, the direct descendant of the J-6, continues to be manufactured today, with a laser target designator in the nose.
J-6s were still being used in 2004 to run intercepts on EP-3Es.

Cuprus has been used as a base for U-2’s and other US intelligence assets, while lately Russia has been complaining about Aries II flights originating from Cyprus and targeting the Caspain Sea…
Operating out of Crete over the Black Sea.

In the British base in Akrotiri there is also an airfield used by NATO.
Nothing to do with NATO.
