Was the Red Bull DC6 there?
-Just imagining how nice it would look alongside the Connie 🙂 –
Excuse my ignorance, but is the second one some kind of Harvard conversion, it looks like one of those Suez-era ‘Corsair’ lookalikes that appear at French shows. Nice looking machine anyhow, shame if it is still stuck outside on a pole…
-The guy in the foreground is not as close as you might think-
The aircraft is actually a high winged transport aircraft- a boy racer Noratlas?
~off topic…. the article is spot on, and yep.. I’m minding the office single handed tomorrow, so drop in if you can~
Back on subject, it is a good point that the ‘Jet Legends’ idea looks like a complete financial nightmare, but then, today, starting from a blank sheet of paper, anybody proposing the Flying Legends concept would be told the same thing. What ‘legends has is the established reputation to attact a large audience to part with a significant ‘once a year’ handful of cash, knowing that, failing a complete washout/thunderstorm, they WILL NOT GO HOME DISSAPOINTED. it is this reputation that holds the whole thing together.
The challenge for a jet version would be to establish this kind of solid reputation, thinking about it more the idea of a fast/pointy/loud/with twinkly lights jet show might even be more appealing to the general public as well as the enthusiasts who can identify jets by their ‘blue note’.
This actually makes for quite a good debate, with my point of view thrown in from the ‘blinkered youthful enthusiasm’ corner. Don’t worry, I’ll learn, some day….
😉
…Damn it Longstaff, I was going to drag out that quote for a witty remark one day 😀
Back on track, anybody doing a ‘Jet legends’ would need a handful of these, caught basking in the sun today 😎
Slightly off tangent again- going into ‘what might soon be…’, could you count a restored original me262? This again would raise the question of what constitutes an original jet, particularly when the engines have meen re-manufactured/modernised to give them a working life of 10+ minutes?
No worries 🙂
PS, And this might equally apply to any UK airshow, with the Swedish B17 appearing at ‘Legends this year, could this mean that some of the exotic classic jets based out that way could appear at a UK show?
And this is informative and factual about Historic aviation how?
erm… not at all really, but since the forum seems to love (or hate) idle speculation in equal measures I thought I might put a different spin on it!
Equate this to nothing more serious than a chat you might have over a pint or two in the pub. The last real world ‘fantasy airshow’ discussion I had resulted in working out a safe crowdline distance to allow a tactical demonstration of a tallboy bomb, professional discreton ought to keep me from revealing the pilot’s name who suggested it 😀
This said, my initial suggestion was pretty much based in the real world, with what feasably could be avalable…
…as I said, it is no more serious in intent than a half explained daydream… but you never know 😉
A scenic airfield overlooking the sea with interesting fast jet history (see Barnes Wallis/swing wings)… how about Predannack, it already has an interesting static park, although they could do with a lick of paint!
These two were non flyers today, the big one due to insurance
…now I wonder if that will open another subject (again !)
DC
Insurance problems? The last thing I heard was that the Meteor would possibly not display due to crewing issues. Rest assured it is still flying and flew into Kemble under its own steam from Bournemouth.
It’s great to see the simple but very nice sheme on this fiat.
Stieglitz
According to a FlyPast article a good few years ago, the Fiat should have a more elaborate scheme but the Italian millitary are not keen about civil aircraft carrying unit badges and codes. Hopefully when it makes a return to full health it will be able to visit the UK again, I would love to see it!
Damien- no problem, PM me with an email to send better copies to, they are not particularly good as I was spending more time acting as extra eyes for the pilot, the circuit was quite busy! If any of them seem half useful please use them, AlanL has some nice ones taken from a Rapide spyplane operating in the same area, if he doesn’t mind (and has stopped sulking 😀 😀 😉 ) I can send those on as well.
Alan.. as you may have worked out from the boss, I am not allowed to talk to you until I have finished the second corporate brochure, the second ‘Dakota Promota’ and orchestrated repainting half the fleet… we will have to use smoke signals! Any ideas for any articles?
PS Drop in to Dak house sometime soon, as then I will be on tea/coffee duty and will be obliged to talk to you 😉
Would be nice to see the Catalina in it’s new colours. Also, what no Skyraiders? 😮
Stuart
No need to panic… it is only a basic list ‘with more to be confirmed’ containing the ‘usual suspects’. There ought to be a pretty full flight line this year….. they really should mention a fleeting appearance by the Twin Pin 😀 😀 😀
Unfortunately I wont be able to make it this weekend, however reconnaisance photos from our Percival spyplane today reveal a mysterious shape being readied for action on the runway at Wellesbourne…
The aforementioned Prentice, and a Rapide will be available for pleasure flying if anybody fancies it, and one of our Dakotas should be there on static display 🙂
I saw a non ‘local’ Dak over Coventry last week, quite low, dark green with roundels, but not the BBMF one. I havent got around to asking about it at work yet. Does this fit the description?
